As a dedicated moviegoer, I’m thrilled to be on week four of “The Great British Sewing Bee” competition. This warm, engaging show continues to soar, exploring the fascinating realm of Korean fashion in an innovative, themed episode.
This evening (5th August), the 10 finalists in the competition are celebrating the intricate fashion and textile heritage of Korea. Fashion designer Eudon Choi is joining judges Patrick Grant and Esme Young as a special guest on this occasion.
In this contest, the sewers are given the unique task of recreating the traditional Korean garment known as the Jeogori, as well as Taekwondo uniforms, for the Transformation Challenge.
In the last Made to Measure contest, the tailors crafted evening attire influenced by the cheollik – a contemporary symbol of Korean style fashion.

He went on to say: “This place boasts a stunning blend of exceptional artistic sensibilities, innovative thinking, robust scientific and engineering prowess, and a rich clothing heritage. Compared to Japan, its cultural influence didn’t spread as far or wide during the 20th century, but it’s rapidly catching up.
From my personal experience, I’ve been deeply rooted in Korean culture since my youth, thanks to the influx of Korean students who temporarily resided with my family during summer breaks, while my mother was engaged in her academic pursuits at the University of Edinburgh.
He remarked: “He’s an incredibly skilled designer, yet genuinely amiable too. Within approximately five minutes, he comfortably assumed the position as judge, and he made our set lively. He clicked excellently with all of our tailors.
On Sewing Bee, there’s an age-old practice known as International Weeks, which Grant finds particularly enjoyable since it offers him a chance to delve deeper into various cultures and their unique apparel customs.
This week, the contest is definitely heating up, and we’ll have to wait to see which competitors excel and which ones might need to leave.
The Great British Sewing Bee continues on Wednesdays at 9pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
