Next year will be the 30th anniversary of the first *Toy Story* movie. It was a groundbreaking film that completely transformed animation, and remains a Pixar classic. The movie also sparked a lasting friendship between stars Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, who are set to work together again on the new *Toy Story 5*. Over the years, they’ve even learned a lot from each other.
Hanks and Allen aren’t necessarily a pair of celebrities that you would expect would become friends, but the pair have frequently been spotted having breakfast together and otherwise getting together even when they don’t have a movie to work on together. In a recent appearance on theHowie Mandel Does Stuff podcast, Allen talks about his friendship and the way Hanks specifically helped him deal with one of the hardest parts of the job, press interviews. Allen said…
I learned a lot from the patient person who showed me the ropes with press interviews. It was always the same question repeated over and over, and I’d eventually get frustrated and say, ‘We already covered this!’ But Tom would point out that getting upset actually made the process take longer.
Tom Hanks is known for being incredibly kind, and it’s easy to see why. Even when faced with repetitive questions – like being asked the same thing 35 times – he manages to stay calm. He understands that being patient will actually help the situation move along more quickly, even if he’s inwardly frustrated.
I understand Tim Allen’s annoyance with film press junkets. Having been one of many reporters asking the same questions repeatedly, I can see how frustrating it gets. While I doubt interviewers enjoy it either, it’s just part of the job.

It’s easy to picture Tim Allen and Tom Hanks facing a familiar routine when *Toy Story 5* comes out next summer. Just like Allen dislikes, they’ll likely be repeatedly asked – probably around 35 times – if they plan to return for a sixth *Toy Story* movie. Let’s hope Tom Hanks can help Tim stay relaxed through it all.
Despite everything, Tom Hanks and Tim Allen are probably excited to promote *Toy Story 5* together next year. It’s currently unknown how the story will bring Buzz and Woody together, but if Tim Allen does any interviews, you can be sure that’s a question many will ask.
