This hugely popular action series continues to be a hit, and it’s quickly climbing the ranks of the most-watched shows on major streaming platforms.
According to Flix Patrol, the action movie John Wick is now among the top ten most-streamed films on HBO Max in the U.S., landing at number nine. Even better, John Wick: Chapter 2 is doing well at number five and appears to be climbing the charts, as other popular choices like Greenland and Ne Zha 2 are becoming less popular with viewers.
Chad Stahelski directed the film, based on a script by Derek Kolstad, who created the John Wick series. It quickly became known for its intense action. The movie stars Keanu Reeves as John Wick, a former hitman who thought he’d left his violent past behind, having completed a dangerous mission to earn his freedom.
Okay, so this movie really kicks off when some clueless guys trying to be tough decide to mess with John Wick. Big mistake! It pulls him back into this super secretive, dangerous underworld he’d been desperately trying to leave behind. And honestly, one of the coolest parts was the introduction of the Continental hotel – it’s become such a huge, central piece of the whole John Wick world, a place with its own rules and history. It’s just brilliantly built out.

The world of John Wick has grown significantly since the first movie. In addition to three sequels, there’s now the Ballerina spin-off film, the The Continental: From the World of John Wick TV series, and a comic book series called John Wick: The Book of Rules. Fans are now looking forward to John Wick: Chapter 5 and two more upcoming, currently unnamed, movies.
What’s Next for the World of John Wick?
I’m so excited about the potential Donnie Yen spin-off within the John Wick universe! From what I understand, the movie will center around his incredible character, Caine, the blind assassin. And the best part? Donnie Yen is not only going to reprise his role, but he’s also reportedly directing it himself! It seems like we won’t be seeing him in the next John Wick movie, but he’ll be fully focused on bringing Caine’s story to life in this new project, and I can’t wait!
According to Chad Stahelski, the new Donnie Yen film isn’t connected to the John Wick story. It’s a celebration of classic kung fu films, much like the original John Wick paid homage to action stars like Charles Bronson and Lee Marvin. This new film draws inspiration from the style of Chow Yun-fat, John Woo, and Wong Kar-wai, making it easier for audiences to understand and enjoy as a distinct subgenre within the action world.
I’m really excited to hear they’re making an animated prequel to John Wick! It was officially approved back in April 2025, but knowing how long these things take to create, I don’t expect to see it in theaters before John Wick: Chapter 5 arrives. As of right now, neither movie has a confirmed release date, but I’m already counting down the days!
