The Handmaid’s Tale sequel TV series The Testaments confirms UK release date with first-look images

Although The Handmaid’s Tale finished its run last year, fans of dystopian stories have a new series to look forward to with The Testaments. It’s now been announced where and when viewers in the UK can watch it.

Disney Plus will soon be streaming The Testaments, starting on Wednesday, April 8th. The first three episodes will be available immediately, followed by new episodes released weekly.

Along with the release date announcement, the first images from The Testaments have been revealed, giving fans a glimpse of the new characters coming in the series.

Similar to the first series, the new images don’t offer major spoilers, but they do give us a good look at the actors playing key roles: Chase Infiniti as Hannah, the biological daughter of Agnes, June, and Luke, and Lucy Halliday as Daisy, who plays Nichole, the biological daughter of June and Nick.

Ann Dowd is back as Aunt Lydia, and she’s joined by new cast members including Mabel Li, Amy Seimetz, Brad Alexander, Mattea Conforti, Zarrin Darnell-Martin, Eva Foote, Kira Guloien, Shechinah Mpumlwana, Rowan Blanchard, Birva Pandya, and Isolde Ardies.

We announced a general release timeframe late last year, but at the time, viewers in the UK didn’t know where they would be able to watch the new series.

Good news! The show will be available on Disney Plus in just a few months, giving us time to brace ourselves for another intense season in Gilead.

The series centers on Agnes and Daisy, two teenage girls at a strict school run by Aunt Lydia. Agnes is a dedicated and devout student, while Daisy is a newcomer who recently joined the community. As they learn the harsh rules of obedience at this school designed to train future wives, their friendship sparks a chain of events that will dramatically change everything about their lives – their past, present, and future.

The series is adapted from Margaret Atwood’s 2019 novel, which continues the story of the original book. The novel—and now the series—is told through the perspectives of Aunt Lydia, Agnes, and Daisy, all of whom will be central characters.

Both the original novel and the new TV series take place fifteen years after the story of The Handmaid’s Tale. They will center on three women whose lives intersect as they fight back against the oppressive regime of Gilead.

It’s been seven years since this series was first announced, so fans have been waiting a long time to see how the adaptation turns out and if it lives up to the original story.

These young women have only ever known life in Gilead. They have no real memories of the world before they were taught to believe in its way of life.

With the threat of forced marriage and a life of servitude looming over them, they’ll need to find help from both familiar and new allies as they fight for their freedom and the life they want.
