Filming for HBO’s Harry Potter adaptation is now underway and, as a result, sneak peeks are being shared. This week, fans got their first glimpse of Dominic McLaughlin dressed as Harry. More recently, the official first look at Nick Frost portraying Hagrid has been unveiled. Initially, I must admit that I was hesitant about Frost taking on the role after his casting was announced, given my admiration for him. However, this photo has already alleviated my doubts.
A shared post among HBO Max, Warner Bros. TV, Nick Frost, and others on Instagram featured a picture of Nick Frost in costume as Rubeus Hagrid. In the image, the well-liked actor is seen with long hair and a beard, characteristics that are characteristic of Hogwarts’ caretaker and gameskeeper. The outfit for the character appears to be spot-on as well. Don’t forget to check out the picture below!

In my opinion, this character resembles Hagrid to me, given the costume and makeup. Actors can transform greatly with these tools, and I must admit, the beard and hair in this image are particularly convincing for this portrayal. However, it’s just a photo at this point, so we haven’t heard or seen the actor from Hot Fuzz bring the cherished Wizarding World character to life yet. Despite my initial reservations, I believe he could embody the role well. My doubts mainly lie in the physicality of the performance.
Harry Potter will make its premiere on HBO Max around early 2027. Until then, consider subscribing to this platform and watch the initial eight movies of the series.
