The Housemaid Author Freida McFadden Teases Movie’s Change from Book

Freida McFadden believes The Housemaid film is even better than she imagined.

The author of a novel soon to be a movie starring Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried, and Brandon Sklenar hinted that even people who haven’t read the book yet might be surprised by how it ends. The film is scheduled for release on December 19th.

Freida shared in an interview with TopMob News at the film’s New York premiere that they revised the ending. She believes the changes are an improvement, adding more action that she feels is better suited for a cinematic experience.

The story centers around Sydney as Millie Calloway, a former prisoner who takes a job as a housekeeper for the enigmatic Nina and Andrew Winchester. Initially, Nina seems like just a difficult boss, but Millie soon discovers there’s a much darker secret hidden within the Winchester household.

For Sydney, picking up the script for hard-to-read Millie was a no brainer.

For Sydney, picking up the script for hard-to-read Millie was a no brainer.

She told TopMob News that she immediately loved it when she first read it. She described it as something incredibly enjoyable that everyone would have fun with, and knew right away she wanted to be involved.

As someone who keeps a close eye on what fans really want, I was so excited to see Freida involved in bringing this story to life on the big screen. Knowing how much her fans adore her, I know she was thrilled to be a part of it too!

“It was incredibly exciting,” Sydney said. “We all really connected with the story and are passionate about what we’re creating, and we can’t wait to share it with everyone.”

After reading the book by Freida Pinto, director Paul Feig was eager to bring his own creative vision to the movie.

He told TopMob that he strongly felt he needed to direct the film. He understood they might see him as a comedy director, but he was confident he could handle this project, and it turned out to be one of the most rewarding experiences of his career.

Freida agreed, saying Paul perfectly captured the feeling she wanted for the movie.

Freida described him as a unique blend of humor and unsettling qualities. She’s a big fan and currently considers him her favorite director.

As she put it, “When I heard he was doing it, I couldn’t believe how lucky I was.”
