Get ready, Freida McFadden fans, because it looks like The Housemaid is set to get a sequel.
After the first movie became a big hit in theaters last December, Lionsgate has approved a sequel. It will be based on the second book in Freida McFadden’s Housemaid series, titled The Housemaid’s Secret.
The first movie introduces Millie Calloway (Sydney Sweeney), a woman just out of prison who takes a job as a live-in housekeeper for Nina (Amanda Seyfried) and Andrew Winchester (Brandon Sklenar). She quickly realizes, however, that their seemingly perfect life hides some disturbing secrets.
The movie was a big success for Lionsgate, earning over $75 million in the US and Canada within its first 17 days, and reaching $133 million globally.
Deadline reports that a follow-up to the film has been in the works for a few months. Sydney Sweeney and Michele Morrone are expected to reprise their roles as Millie and the enigmatic groundskeeper Enzo.
Paul Feig will direct the sequel, with Rebecca Sonnenshine returning to write the script. McFadden will also be an executive producer.
Lionsgate’s Adam Fogelson announced that the strong response to The Housemaid – both in ticket sales and on social media – shows audiences loved the movie’s unique theatrical experience and are eager for a sequel.
We’ve always loved these stories, and we’re thrilled to continue Millie’s journey on screen. We’re working with a fantastic team – Todd, Paul, Laura, Carly, Alex, and Sydney – to bring it to life.
“The Housemaid’s Secret” is the latest exciting installment in Freida’s popular series, which has gained fans all over the world. We’re excited to adapt it into a movie that’s just as captivating and energetic as the book.
Director Feig shared his excitement about how much audiences worldwide are enjoying ‘The Housemaid,’ praising the fantastic work of everyone involved in making it.
We’re thrilled Freida McFadden continued Millie’s story in her books, and we’re excited to team up with Rebecca Sonnenshine and Lionsgate to share the next chapter with viewers.

Although Amanda Seyfried probably won’t have a major role in the sequel – her character, Nina Winchester, isn’t in the second book – she has hinted that she might make a cameo appearance.
I’m so excited! The actress recently told Variety at the Palm Springs Film Festival that a sequel is definitely happening, and she’s pretty sure she’ll even make a little appearance in it herself. I can’t wait!
I’m very curious to see how Millie maintains control over Nina Winchester, and I’d immediately get involved again if I could.
We don’t have many details about the sequel yet, including when it will be released or what the story will be about. However, we know the next book in the series follows Millie as she starts cleaning for a new family—Douglas and Wendy Garrick, a wealthy couple.
The first movie’s ending subtly set up the next one, showing Millie applying for a housekeeper position with a strangely disturbing new employer.
As for how things will unfold for her, well, audiences will just have to wait and see.

Okay, so here’s the deal: I’m getting a block on displaying whatever’s behind this reCAPTCHA. Apparently, if you’re logged into something called Contentpass, it’s causing a problem. My advice? Sign out of Contentpass, and hopefully, whatever I’m trying to show you will appear. It’s a bit of a workaround, but it seems to be the only way to get past this right now.
The Housemaid is now showing in cinemas.
