Fans are eagerly awaiting the December release of the 2025 movie, *The Housemaid*. The trailer is intense and suggests a thrilling experience. If you’re wondering what to expect from the film adaptation of Freida McFadden’s book, the author herself has seen Sydney Sweeney’s performance and has a surprising opinion to share!
The upcoming movie based on Freida McFadden’s novel, *The Housemaid*, promises to be a thrilling watch. Directed by Paul Feig, known for *A Simple Favor*, and starring Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, the story follows a new housekeeper who quickly realizes her employers are hiding dangerous secrets.
While Seyfried and Sweeney had a fun time watching their thriller flick early, it appears that its author caught a glimpse of her book’s film adaptation too. McFadden took to Instagram to share her glowing review with a bold claim I didn’t see coming:
I recently saw an advance screening of The Housemaid, and I really enjoyed it! I immediately told my husband that I thought the movie was even better than the novel it’s based on – and he agreed.
I was absolutely floored to hear the author say the movie was even better than the book! It’s such a huge compliment, especially considering it’s their own story. Honestly, we’ve seen so many adaptations that actually *surpass* the original, haven’t we? The actor Michele Morrone promised they’d stay true to the book, which is great, but I’m also kind of hoping they took some creative risks. A little extra tension or deeper character work could really elevate the story, and that wouldn’t bother me at all – in fact, it might make it even more amazing!
It’s hard to imagine how incredible it must feel for an author to see their book adapted into a movie. Watching characters they created in their mind come to life on screen must be a uniquely powerful experience. Freida McFadden went on to share more about what she enjoyed about the *The Housemaid* film:
This adaptation perfectly captures what makes the original novel so beloved! The actors all gave phenomenal performances – it almost inspired me to write another book in the series! My only complaint is that I can barely wait until December to rewatch it!
I can definitely relate to the excitement! Director Paul Feig mentioned the new movie would be shocking to some, and that immediately grabbed my attention. The more I read about the early reviews of *The Housemaid*, the more eager I am to see it.
Freida McFadden, the author of *The Housemaid*, has given the movie adaptation a glowing review, and I’m already looking forward to seeing it! She hints that the performances are even better than the book, which sounds promising. Starring Sydney Sweeney, the movie hits theaters on December 19th, so be sure to add it to your watchlist.
