A fresh rendition of “The Hunger Games” is about to hit screens, introducing a new character to embody the role of Girl on Fire. It was disclosed on Tuesday that the London stage adaptation has cast its lead character, Katniss Everdeen. The announcement was made via the production’s official Instagram account, accompanied by a sneak peek video showcasing the actress’ practice with Katniss’ signature bow and arrow.
Mia Carragher has been selected to portray Katniss in an upcoming live theater production of “The Hunger Games,” which is scheduled to premiere at the Troubadour Canary Wharf Theatre towards the end of this year. The announcement video also emphasizes their efforts to faithfully depict the book’s adaptation for the stage and accurately portray the grim truth of Katniss’ world. At present, Carragher is the sole cast member announced, but additional actors may be revealed on the play’s Instagram account in the near future. You can watch the video announcing Mia Carragher as Katniss below.
Carragher is a fresh face in the industry. She made her debut on Channel 4’s show The Gathering, and will next appear in Mistletoe & Wine and Let’s Love. Notably, she will be starring alongside Josh Hutcherson, a former character from the Hunger Games, in the latter production. The stage adaptation of The Hunger Games is being handled by Conor McPherson, an esteemed Irish playwright, and directed for the stage by Matthew Dunster, a renowned English theatre director, writer, and performer.
For the first time ever, “The Hunger Games” will be brought to life on stage, marking the initial theatre adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ globally renowned book and Lionsgate’s blockbuster film series that sparked a massive movie franchise. The production is set to take place at the recently constructed Troubadour Canary Wharf Theatre. Tickets are now available for purchase, with prices ranging from sixty pounds to one hundred and twenty-five pounds. Preview performances of “The Hunger Games: On Stage” are anticipated to commence on October 20th, with the play set to make its official debut on November 13th.
Initially published by Scholastic on September 14, 2008, Suzanne Collins’ novel “The Hunger Games” swiftly gained popularity among readers, eventually leading Lionsgate to greenlight a film adaptation. The debut movie, featuring Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss, was released on March 23, 2012, and dominated the box office. This initial film was followed by four more installments, with the final book in the “Hunger Games” trilogy, “Mockingjay,” being split into two films. Although Katniss’ story has concluded, Lionsgate and Collins have continued to prosper with the franchise through “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” and “Sunrise on the Reaping.” The former has already been turned into a film, while the latter is set to premiere next year.
Currently, it seems that “The Hunger Games: On Stage” is only set to be a play in London. However, this could potentially change, much like how “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” started as a London-based production before touring across the United States after its massive success.
Coming soon in the Hunger Games series is the theatrical debut of “The Hunger Games: Dawn of the Reaping”. Filming for this movie has just commenced, with Francis Lawrence returning to helm the new production. The prequel centers around Haymitch and boasts a stellar ensemble cast that includes Ralph Fiennes as President Snow, Elle Fanning as Effie Trinket, Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee, Joseph Zada as Haymitch Abernathy, Maya Hawke as Wiress, Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman, Lili Taylor as Mags Flanagan, Glenn Close as Drusilla Sickle, Jefferson White as Mr. McCoy, and Billy Porter as Magno Stift.
