One of the highly anticipated Netflix releases of 2025, “The Hunting Wives,” has been creating quite a buzz ever since it started streaming in July. The series, accessible only to those with a U.S. Netflix subscription, has consistently remained in the Top 10 for five weeks running, with critics praising it and viewers discussing its intriguing elements, as well as its steamy appeal. However, another topic that’s generating quite a lot of conversation surrounding the show is the various wigs worn by Malin Akerman’s character.
Many have been discussing vigorously about the star’s wig, with Twitter describing it variously as “devious,” “seductive,” and simply “poor.” When Akerman was queried about it on the “Not Skinny But Not Fat” podcast, she revealed the genuine explanation behind Margo’s peculiar wig predicament. In her own words:
During my visit to L.A., I got a custom wig made to fit my head size. Upon reaching North Carolina for our filming, we tried on the wig, and it fit perfectly, however, the color and style weren’t exactly as discussed during our previous conversations.
According to the actress, she got her wig for the “Hunting Wives” series fitted in Los Angeles prior to filming in North Carolina. However, when the show’s creator, Rebecca Cutter, saw it, she wasn’t satisfied with the result. The actress went on to say:
She expressed her disappointment by saying something like, ‘This isn’t what we discussed. The wig isn’t as expected.’ It seemed to have an over-the-top style reminiscent of shows like Dallas or Dynasty. To be honest, it wasn’t impressive.
During a screen test for “The Hunting Wives,” it seems they ran out of time to obtain a new wig. Akerman remembers the hair stylist on set rummaging through a collection of wigs and asking the actress to try them on. Eventually, one (that wasn’t custom-fit) was selected for her to wear during filming. Akerman added that this was shared in conversation.
I notice you seeing me with a stylish makeover, sporting some aluminum foil in my wig’s hair section as the latest addition to my headpiece is lighter than the previous one.
When Akerman’s fresh wig arrived, it turned out to be a shade lighter than the initial one she wore. To account for this change in her hair appearance throughout the season, they chose to shoot a scene depicting Margo getting her hair styled at the salon. It’s amazing how such incidents can unfold on movie sets, isn’t it? If you noticed this while watching the show, I hope this clarifies things for you!
When the host inquired about Akerman’s wig, she explained that she sported a bob hairstyle initially and had health issues related to thyroid, which made maintaining Margo’s long, voluminous hair on the show challenging. Yet, if there’s another season, she plans to manage things differently. In her words: “If there’s another season, I’d approach it differently.
Contemplating coloring it and adding extensions, I was worried it would start shedding anyway. If there’s another season, we plan to use the dying option instead.
Based on the popularity of “The Hunting Wives” in the 2025 TV lineup, it’s quite likely that a second season will be produced, though we can only speculate at this point. In the meantime, delight in the humorous selection of wigs featured in the first season.
