Sydney Sweeney has been incredibly busy with several films slated for release in 2025. She recently starred in Christy, a boxing drama directed by David Michôd, where she portrays pioneering boxer Christy Martin. Following that, she filmed The Housemaid, a movie based on a popular book, immediately after finishing the boxing film. Sweeney recently revealed to TopMob that she lost a significant amount of weight while transitioning between these two roles.
Sydney Sweeney has been discussing the physical changes she underwent to play Christy, including building a home gym to gain muscle for the role. However, her previous role in Housemaid required a very different physique. Jeff McCobb from TopMob recently spoke with Sweeney, and she shared how much weight she had to lose before filming the adaptation of the book.
After finishing filming on Christy, I had a seven-week break before starting The Housemaid, so I really needed to be disciplined with my time.
That’s a really fast change, and it sounds difficult to physically go through. So, people are probably wondering just how dedicated the Euphoria star was when it came to losing weight. Apparently, she was extremely disciplined, and shared some impressive details about her process.
I put on 35 pounds for the role of Christy, and then managed to lose around 30. I’m still working on losing the last five! [laughs]
It’s amazing that Sydney Sweeney lost 30 pounds so quickly, and I’m curious about how she did it. She’s certainly allowed to keep her methods private, though. It’s hard not to think the director of The Housemaid, Paul Feig, was happy with her weight loss when she started filming. Overall, it seems like Sweeney is really challenging herself with the roles she takes on.

Sydney Sweeney shared her experience preparing for and filming a biopic about boxer Christy Martin, describing how she fully immersed herself in the role and how having Martin present during filming impacted her performance.
Both Christy and The Housemaid are quite different movies. Michôd’s film tells the story of Martin’s boxing career and her complicated relationship with her ex-husband, James V. Martin, who tried to harm her. It’s a sports drama that also explores the impact of abusive relationships. The Housemaid, however, is a thriller about a young woman who takes a job as a live-in housekeeper for a rich family and discovers they’re hiding dark secrets. Director Feig has hinted that this version will be shocking, and some viewers might be surprised by its boldness.
It’s amazing how quickly Sydney Sweeney transformed her body between roles. She lost a significant amount of muscle right after filming Christy, and she really committed to the process. You can see the results of her hard work in Christy, which is now playing in theaters. And be sure to catch The Housemaid when it’s released on December 25th.
