Disney and Pixar are currently developing an eagerly awaited return of the beloved animated series, The Incredibles. However, fans might not be pleased with the announced release schedule for The Incredibles 3. Known as one of Pixar’s most acclaimed films, The Incredibles was also one of their toughest to bring back for a sequel. While popular franchises like Toy Story and Cars swiftly continued with new installments, it took almost 15 years from the premiere of the original movie to produce The Incredibles 2. Unfortunately, fans will have to wait even longer for its third part as well.
During the Destination D23 weekend, Pixar provided an update about the release of The Incredibles 3. Unfortunately, the update indicates that the movie won’t be coming out anytime soon, with a tentative release date set for “2028 or later.” This means fans will have to wait at least three years after this announcement, and at least four years since the initial announcement of the film. Given the nature of major animated films, this delay is understandable but still disappointing for eager fans.
The Incredibles 3 Set for Release in 2028
During Destination D23 weekend, Disney and Pixar unveiled that two upcoming movies – “Toy Story 5” and “Hoppers” – are set to release next year. Following these, a feline-themed feature film titled “Gatto” is planned for 2027. The announcements of both “The Incredibles 3” and “Coco 2” have been made for the years 2028 and beyond, although fans eagerly anticipating these films might find the longer waits a bit painful. These new movies were announced over the past year or so.
If “The Incredibles 3” is indeed released in 2028, it will mark a ten-year gap since the debut of “The Incredibles 2” in 2018. Fans may have to wait even longer for the third installment as this timeline represents a minimum waiting period. Unfortunately, details about the upcoming sequel are scarce, with no clear insights into its storyline, family dynamics, or other changes. At present, it remains shrouded in mystery. However, the announcement that production is still progressing offers a reassuring update to fans.
What We Know About The Incredibles 3 So Far

As a die-hard fan of Pixar’s The Incredibles, I can’t help but get excited about the upcoming third installment! Although details are still scarce, we do know that things behind the scenes will look a bit different this time around. The mastermind behind the first two films, Brad Bird, is stepping back as director for The Incredibles 3. Instead, Peter Sohn, who worked on Soul and Elemental, will take the helm. While this change may come as a surprise to some of us dedicated fans, I have faith that the team will deliver an amazing film!
Initially, “Elementa” didn’t fare exceptionally well at the box office upon its release, but it was astonishing how it managed to gain a significant resurgence in popularity weeks after its premiere, thanks to word-of-mouth recommendations. Upon its theater debut, it was nothing short of mesmerizing, indicating that a talented director was behind the scenes. Although Bird might not have had full control this time, it’s important to note that “The Incredibles 2” wasn’t universally adored by fans either. When the third installment eventually arrives, audiences are likely to be ready to embrace it once again.
