As expected, the announcement of Horizon Hunters Gathering has received a largely negative reaction online.
Guerrilla Games has revealed a new Horizon game, a co-op spin-off for both PlayStation 5 and PC. Players will experience a visually striking world with pre-designed characters, and the game was announced just last week.
PlayStation Studio handled the announcement well. They clearly explained their vision for the game and immediately showed off a lot of gameplay, which was a smart approach.
This isn’t the highly anticipated Horizon 3, and it’s connected to Sony’s attempt to create ongoing, live-service games, which has already faced criticism. Because of this, we expected some negative reaction.
As of today, the official reveal trailer has 735,000 views and 20,000 likes, suggesting the response hasn’t been overwhelmingly positive.
I was checking out the views on some game trailers, and it’s interesting to see how things are stacking up. The latest trailer for Crimson Desert has already racked up around 600,000 views on PlayStation’s channel, with about 25,000 likes. Then there’s GeniGods: Nezha, which is newer, and it’s got 20,000 likes from around 460,000 views so far. It’s cool to see what people are getting excited about!
However, the comments on YouTube are often harsh. The negative ones, in particular, have gained a lot of attention and are now prominently displayed.
The reaction is much the same on platforms like Reddit, with gaming fans criticizing Sony’s choices and expressing strong disapproval of the art style in Hunters Gathering.
It’s tough to find truly positive comments because you have to sift through so many that are just neutral or uninterested.
Basically, the optics aren’t good, and even right here on Push Square, the negativity is noticeable.
The reactions to the announcement, as you can see in the comments section and especially in our poll, are overwhelmingly negative.
We asked readers what they thought of Horizon Hunters Gathering after it was revealed, and the feedback wasn’t positive – it’s likely Sony executives won’t be pleased with the results.
We received over 4,400 votes, and only 3% of respondents said they were excited about the game. While 16% expressed interest, another 16% were unsure. The majority – 64% – said they weren’t interested or had already lost interest.
The latter was the most popular option on the whole poll, with 42% of the votes. Jeez!
We haven’t seen a poll with such negative feedback in a long time, particularly when it comes to games made by PlayStation Studios.
We can only think of one similar instance: a survey we conducted for Concord after its release. It revealed a striking lack of interest – a full 81% of users said they weren’t playing the game. Horizon Hunters Gathering will likely want to avoid a similar outcome.
As we often emphasize, first impressions are crucial in this field. If a project starts with a negative response, it will face a constant struggle to succeed.
