The Iris Affair’s Niamh Algar teases the thriller’s “explosive” opening sequence

Niamh Algar is the star of ‘The Iris Affair,’ a new thriller series from the creator of ‘Luther,’ Neil Cross. Tom Hollander also appears in the show.

Algar stars as Iris, a brilliant and mysterious problem-solver. Hollander plays Cameron, a businessman who enlists Iris to access a groundbreaking technology. But when Iris realizes how dangerous the technology could be, she takes the activation codes and flees. Cameron then pursues her across Italy in an attempt to recover them.

As a movie and TV fan, let me tell you, this show is wild! Every episode has some seriously crazy stuff going on. The way they kick things off is fantastic, and you quickly realize that initial scene is just the tip of the iceberg – it all pays off later. Honestly, filming it sounded like a blast; they said it was really explosive!

The series boasts a talented cast including Kristofer Hivju, known for his role in ‘Game of Thrones’, Harry Lloyd from ‘I, Jack Wright’, Meréana Tomlinson of ‘The Trials’, Sacha Dhawan (‘Doctor Who’), Maya Sansa (‘Dormant Beauty’), Peter Sullivan (‘Poldark’), Debi Mazar (‘Entourage’), Marco Leonardi (‘Anime Nere’), Angela Bruce (‘Silver Haze’), and Lorenzo De Moor (‘Another Simple Favor’).

Algar recently described her character as very different from the norm, explaining that she operates almost like a computer – she only remembers, saves, and uses information she deems important, accurate, and logical.

She described the woman as intensely focused, controlling, and erratic, explaining that she quickly identifies what makes people vulnerable and exploits those weaknesses to achieve her goals.

She’s a fiercely independent and fascinating woman, driven by her own intellect and thirst for knowledge, not by love or past hardships. The story begins as she starts working with Cameron Beck, and through their connection, she begins to truly understand herself.

I’ve been following this series, and honestly, it feels like a really current, important discussion turned into this wild, fast-paced thriller – kind of like *Wacky Races*, but with more suspense. My character, though, isn’t a villain. He’s actually pretty easy to root for, unlike Dick Dastardly!

The Iris Affair premieres on Sky and NOW on Thursday, October 16th. If you’re not already a subscriber, you can find information on how to sign up for Sky TV.
