It’s unexpected! Naughty Dog has unveiled an updated version of The Last of Us Part 2, titled “Remastered.” This update allows players to experience the entire game in a timeline-friendly sequence.
The restructured narrative of the game titled Chronological Experience organizes Ellie and Abby’s journey in a sequential manner along a single timeline, making it easier to comprehend as opposed to the non-linear storytelling found in the original version, which some have noted as challenging due to its time jumps.
Naughty Dog’s editorial content manager, Jonathan Dornbush, muses in his PlayStation Blog post about long-held curiosity regarding the chronological unfolding of this story. Now, at last, we have the opportunity to discover the answer.
He continues:
By introducing the Chronological mode, we anticipate players will uncover a richer understanding of Part II’s storyline. This feature allows you to observe how events unfold in a way that reveals connections, such as Ellie receiving a guitar and subsequently learning to play it, or following the intriguing similarities between Ellie and Abby’s travels through Seattle. You’ll witness moments where they almost cross paths, observe how their actions influence each other, and much more.
As a gamer, I noticed that this latest update seems to be the result of some awesome teamwork between the game developers and Nixxes – the folks who usually handle Sony’s first-party PC porting projects.
Today, the “Chronological Experience” has been released on both PS5 and PC platforms. As soon as it becomes available for download, we will update this post.
Additionally, this update introduces two fresh character skins for the game. Specifically, you can now customize Joel and Tommy with outfits reminiscent of Nathan and Sam Drake from Uncharted, in the No Return mode.
To clarify, the blog post additionally notes that they plan to incorporate “further bug resolutions and performance enhancements” within the same update.
