The Last of Us star features in moody first look at “unmissable, atmospheric” new thriller series

New photos have been revealed from the set of Maya, a darkly comedic drama coming to Channel 4. The show stars Bella Ramsey, known for her role in The Last of Us, and Daisy Haggard, famous for Breeders and Boat Story, and filming has now finished.

I’m so excited about this new series! It’s the brainchild of Haggard – she not only wrote it but is also directing, alongside Jamie Donoughue. It centers around Anna, a really dedicated single mom, and her strong-willed daughter, Maya. They find themselves having to go into hiding as part of a witness protection program, and I think it’s going to be a gripping story!

Forced to leave their London life, they move to a quiet town in Scotland, leaving Anna’s parents, played by Harriet Walter and Tom Courteney, behind.

While settling into a new place, two assassins, Benji (Ben Chaplin) and Ted (Raphel Famotibe), find themselves increasingly threatened by a seemingly friendly man named Bobby (Tobias Menzie), making it clear they’re in danger.

Channel 4 has released four new images, and some depict Anna and Maya in what appears to be a comfortable, home-like setting. In one photo, they’re sharing a bed, which Anna clearly isn’t happy about, based on her expression.

Another sees them brushing their teeth at the same time.

Another image shows the pair facing danger, sitting near some water.

Maya rests her head on Anna, who has a bloody lip and appears to be holding back tears.

The last image shows Anna screaming in the Scottish highlands, her face filled with fear. It’s a truly frightening picture.

Shot entirely in Scotland, “Maya” is a six-part series with each episode lasting an hour. It’s expected to be released sometime next year, though the specific release date hasn’t been announced yet.

This thriller is both darkly funny and surprisingly heartwarming, showcasing the author’s signature warmth and humor. It’s a truly captivating series you won’t want to miss.
