NIS America has released demos for The Legend of Heroes: Trails beyond the Horizon, titled “Story” and “Battle”.
So, I’ve been checking out the demos for this game, and there are actually two different ones! The ‘Story’ demo lets you jump right into the beginning – it’s basically the prologue – and it’s available on pretty much everything: PlayStation 5, Switch 2, PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC through Steam. If you’re more into action, there’s a ‘Battle’ demo, but that one’s only on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. I’m definitely trying both!
Here is an overview of each demo, via NIS America:
Story Demo

Experience the beginning of The Legend of Heroes: Trails beyond the Horizon! Join Van Arkride and his team as they face a continent-spanning crisis. As Zemuria prepares for its first journey into space, Van, Rean Schwarzer, and Father Kevin are thrust into a military exercise that uncovers hidden truths. Though their journeys may take them in different directions, they’re all searching for the same thing: what mysteries lie beyond the horizon?
You can now play the Story Demo on PC, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
*All save data will carry over to the main game upon release with the day one patch.
Battle Demo

Enter the dangerous world of the Grim Garten! You can play with one of three teams – Van, Kevin, or Rean – in this virtual reality experience. Originally created by Marduk, the Grim Garten has been hijacked by Ouroboros, who completely changed how it looks and works. It started as the ‘Marchen Garten,’ which was revolutionary as the first virtual reality system to fully immerse players and connect them across the continent using the orbal network.
The Battle Demo is exclusively available now on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
The latest installment in the Legend of Heroes series, Trails beyond the Horizon, will be available on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC (through Steam, the Epic Games Store, and GOG) in Western regions on January 15, 2026. It was originally released on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 in Japan and Asia on September 26, 2024, and later came to PC via Steam in Asia on January 23, 2025.
