I’m so excited! Production on the live-action Legend of Zelda movie has started, and Nintendo just dropped the first photos! We finally get to see what Bo Bragason as Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link look like in costume – I checked them out on IGN and they’re amazing! It’s really starting to feel real.
Nintendo hasn’t shared details about the rest of the cast for the live-action Legend of Zelda movie yet. However, reports suggest Dichen Lachman, known for her role in Severance, has been cast as Impa, Zelda’s loyal assistant.
Back in July, Nintendo announced on social media that Keegan-Michael Key (Bragason) and Adam Driver (Ainsworth) would voice Zelda and Link in the upcoming movie. The announcement came from Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of The Legend of Zelda, who also confirmed the film is still scheduled to be released in theaters on May 7, 2027.
In a recent social media post, Miyamoto announced the actors who will star in the live-action Legend of Zelda film. Bo Bragason will play Zelda, and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will play Link. Miyamoto expressed excitement to see them bring the characters to life on screen, and confirmed the movie is set to release in theaters on May 7, 2027. He also thanked fans for their continued patience.
Wes Bell is directing the upcoming The Legend of Zelda movie, while Shigeru Miyamoto is producing it. Bell has a strong background in filmmaking, having worked on popular franchises like the Maze Runner series and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.
So, I heard about this movie way back in November 2023, and it turns out Nintendo is teaming up with Sony Pictures to make it! Basically, Sony’s doing most of the heavy lifting on the movie side of things, but Nintendo is in charge of creating all the video content that’ll go with it – like behind-the-scenes stuff, I’m guessing. Pretty cool combo, honestly.
While official details about the Legend of Zelda movie are scarce, reports from April suggest it’s intended to be the first in a series of three films. A summary of the plot has also surfaced, confirming the movie will include classic Zelda elements like the villain Ganon, the Triforce, and Link’s quest to solve puzzles and explore dangerous dungeons in search of powerful artifacts.
The game The Legend of Zelda centers around Link, a young hero tasked with saving the magical kingdom of Hyrule from evil. Hyrule is in danger because of Ganon, a cruel warlord who wants to obtain the Triforce—a powerful, ancient artifact. To defeat Ganon, Link must go on a dangerous adventure, fighting monsters, navigating difficult dungeons, and solving complex puzzles to find sacred items that will help him succeed.
