After four decades of waiting, a Legend of Zelda movie is finally in production, and early looks suggest it closely resembles the more recent games. A film based on the original, older game might feel too outdated for modern audiences.
Nintendo recently revealed the first look at the upcoming Legend of Zelda movie, showcasing Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link and Bo Bragason as Zelda. While Nintendo’s Mario Bros. movies use animation, The Legend of Zelda will be a live-action film featuring real actors. A new Mario Bros. sequel is scheduled for release next summer.
Nintendo also released two additional close-ups of their characters. First Ainsworth as Link…

And also Bragason as Zelda… with some serious elf ears.

After years of anticipation, a movie based on the Zelda game series was officially announced in March 2025. Sony and Nintendo jointly revealed they were producing the film, with Wes Ball – known for directing The Maze Runner movies and the recent Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes – at the helm. Nintendo confirmed the cast for the movie in July.
Details about the upcoming film are scarce, but we know it will star two leads and be based on the popular Zelda video game series from Nintendo. The first Zelda game, The Legend of Zelda, came out in 1986 on the Nintendo Entertainment System. The most recent installment, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, was released on Nintendo Switch in May 2023. It was also recently made available on Nintendo’s new Switch 2 console, though a Zelda game specifically designed for the Switch 2 hasn’t been announced yet.
The Legend of Zelda live-action movie is scheduled to open in theaters on May 7, 2027.
McDonald’s Happy Meal Toys That Are Very Valuable

McNugget Buddies
A complete collection of the original 1988 McNugget Buddies recently sold for $130 on eBay. These collectible toys, based on McDonald’s Chicken McNuggets, have been reintroduced in Happy Meals several times over the years, including in 1992, 1994, 1996, and most recently in 2023 as part of a limited edition release. Please note that dipping sauce is not included with the set.

101 Dalmatians
A complete set of 101 Dalmatian Happy Meal toys from McDonald’s, released in 1996 to promote Disney’s live-action movie, recently sold for $119 on eBay. These toys, made of PVC plastic, were popular, and McDonald’s restaurants only received a limited number of each figure, encouraging customers to visit multiple locations to collect them all. The sold set included a special collector’s case.

Changeables
A complete collection of the original 1987 Changeables – McDonald’s toys inspired by Transformers that turn into robots – recently sold for around $90 on eBay. These retro toys are based on classic menu items like McNuggets, Egg McMuffins, fries, the Quarter Pounder, milkshakes, and the Big Mac. McDonald’s released additional Changeables sets, also called McRobots, in 1989 and 1990.

LEGO Bionicle
As a lifelong cinema and pop culture fan, I was surprised to see a recent eBay listing – a single, unopened McDonald’s Happy Meal toy from 2001 sold for almost $40! It was one of those LEGO Bionicle figures with a disc launcher. For those who don’t know, Bionicle was a really popular LEGO line that sadly stopped production in 2010, though it had a brief comeback that didn’t last. Because it’s discontinued, these old Happy Meal toys are now quite collectible, especially for Bionicle fans and people who collect the toys from Happy Meals.

Funny Fry Friends
A recent eBay sale showed a set of four sealed 1989 McDonald’s “Funny Fry Friends” toys selling for $26.99. These characters, originally known as Fry Gobblins, are mischievous little guys designed to steal fries. They were a Happy Meal promotion in 1989 and included versions like a rollerskating Fry Guy and a basketball player Fry Guy.

Snoopy World Tour
A recent sale on eBay shows just how valuable the McDonald’s Snoopy World Tour toys have become. These collectibles, featuring Snoopy dressed in outfits from different cultures, were originally released in Japan and other countries during the 1990s – they were never sold in the U.S. A complete set of 28 figures from the second series recently sold for over $100.

Dukes of Hazzard Happy Meal Container
A single plastic container from a 1982 McDonald’s Happy Meal promotion featuring The Dukes of Hazzard recently sold for $109.99 on eBay. McDonald’s and the show collaborated on a set of five car-shaped containers, released weekly with collectible decals. This particular container was shaped like the General Lee vehicle.

Original Boo Buckets
As a collector myself, I’ve been keeping an eye on the market, and let me tell you, the McDonald’s Boo Buckets are big business. These Halloween Happy Meal pails are seriously iconic, and McDonald’s has been releasing different versions since 1986. But the originals? Forget about it. I just saw a complete set of the very first three Boo Buckets sell for $75.00 on eBay, proving they’re still incredibly desirable after all these years. If you happen to have one tucked away, it might be worth checking its value!

Disney 100 Years of Magic
A complete set of 100 miniature Disney and Pixar character figures recently sold for around $200 on eBay. These collectible PVC toys were released in 2002 as part of a McDonald’s Happy Meal promotion celebrating Disney’s 100th anniversary. For almost a month, customers could collect the figures, known as the ‘100 Years of Magic’ collection, with their Happy Meals.

Inspector Gadget
A complete Inspector Gadget Happy Meal toy from 1999 recently sold for $30.00 on eBay. It’s surprising, considering the live-action Inspector Gadget movie wasn’t successful. What makes this toy collectible is that it came in eight separate pieces – each piece was a small toy on its own. To get the complete figure, people had to buy several Happy Meals during the promotion. Because of this, a fully assembled Inspector Gadget figure is now considered rare by collectors.

Super Mario Brothers Set
A recent eBay sale showed a set of vintage McDonald’s Happy Meal toys – featuring characters from the classic Super Mario Bros. 3 game – selling for $42.99. These toys, released in 1990, included Mario, Luigi, Goomba, and Koopa Paratroopa. A rare fifth figure, Mario in his raccoon suit, was also available. Collectors still highly prize these original toys, as evidenced by the recent auction price.

Lil McDonald’s
A complete, unopened set of the Lil McDonald’s Happy Meal toy set, released in 2025, recently sold for $189.99 on eBay. This collectible set features miniature versions of classic McDonald’s items like cash registers, Boo Buckets, menu kiosks, and even tiny Happy Meal boxes – it’s incredibly cute! The set was very popular when it came out, making it a sought-after item for collectors.

Cactus Plant Flea Market
A sealed set of the collectible toys from McDonald’s 2022 collaboration with Cactus Plant Flea Market recently sold for $46.99 on eBay. The limited-edition “adult” Happy Meal included classic McDonald’s items like the Big Mac and featured collectible figurines of Grimace, Birdie, the Hamburglar, and the Cactus Buddy.

Transformers
A recent eBay sale showed a sealed, original McDonald’s Transformers Happy Meal toy selling for $79.95. Back in 1985, McDonald’s released four non-transforming Transformers toys – Bumblebee, Gears, Cliffjumper, and Brawn – as part of their Happy Meal promotion. These toys were only available at select restaurants in the St. Louis area, making them very rare and highly collectible now.

Hot Wheels
A recent eBay sale showed that a set of eight sealed Hot Wheels toys from 1990, originally included in McDonald’s Happy Meals, sold for $30.00. Hot Wheels and McDonald’s have partnered many times over the years, but certain Happy Meal toys are more valuable to collectors than others.
