After a four-year gap, The Mandalorian & Grogu are bringing the world of Star Wars back to movie theaters. The pair are starting a new journey, and a recent idea suggests we might meet a new enemy for Din Djarin, played by Pedro Pascal.
The recent Toy Fair showed off a bunch of new Mandalorian & Grogu toys that will be available in stores soon. Among the new items was a completely new Star Wars character – someone who looks like they could be a great opponent for Din Djarin.
Star Wars Toy Fair Reveals: Who Is Mandalorian & Grogu’s “Mercenary Guard Droid”?
Toy Fair 2026 revealed a brand new Star Wars droid character, currently known as the “Mercenary Guard Droid.” The design is quite unique and immediately catches the eye.
This new droid seems to have a unique design – it appears to travel using a vintage Separatist STAP vehicle and its head is modeled after either a standard B1 battle droid or a Commando Droid from the Clone Wars era.
The Mercenary Guard Droid is getting a lot of attention – with multiple action figures and a Funko Pop already planned. This suggests the character might play a significant role in The Mandalorian & Grogu, possibly even as a main villain.
A Sentient Droid Hunter Would Be Din Djarin’s Perfect Arch-Foe
The Mercenary Guard Droid from The Mandalorian & Grogu is visually similar to droids like Mister Bones from the Aftermath trilogy and ND-5 from Star Wars: Outlaws. These droids all share a history as heavily modified former Separatist battle units with more developed, independent personalities.
As a huge Star Wars fan, I’m really excited about this new Mercenary droid character. If they’re done right, they could be the perfect foil for Din Djarin. You know, Din has a really complicated relationship with droids – it goes way back to his childhood. He lost his parents when droids attacked during the Clone Wars, so it’s a pretty deep-seated trauma. This new character could really play into that and create some fantastic conflict!
If the rumors are true, it would be exciting to see Din Djarin face off against a droid hunter using parts from the Clone Wars in the next Star Wars movie. This new mercenary could be a compelling villain in The Mandalorian & Grogu, rather than someone who joins Din and Grogu as an ally.
The Mandalorian & Grogu releases in theaters on May 22nd, 2026.
