The Mandalorian Season 4 Gets Disappointing Update From Star Wars Actor

Since Disney+ began six years ago, *The Mandalorian* has been one of its most important shows. Now, after three seasons following Din Djarin and Grogu, they’re moving from television to a full-length movie next summer, ending a long wait for a new *Star Wars* film. While fans are excited about the movie, many are wondering if *The Mandalorian* will return for a fourth season. Although Season 4 was once in the works, it seems to have been put on hold as Lucasfilm focuses on the film. Unfortunately, actress Katy O’Brian’s recent comments suggest a fourth season isn’t likely.

In an interview with Polygon, actress Diana O’Brian discussed the future of her character, Elia Kane, a former Imperial officer and spy who participated in the New Republic Amnesty Program. She stated she’s unsure if there will be a fourth season of the show, but she confirmed she won’t be appearing in the upcoming movie.

Why The Mandalorian Season 4 May Not Happen

It’s common for actors to find out about new seasons of a show quite late in the process, so it’s possible Season 4 of *The Mandalorian* is happening, but Katee Sackhoff (who plays Bo-Katan Kryze, referred to as O’Brian in the original text) simply hasn’t been asked back yet. Similarly, Elia Kane’s future on the show is uncertain, as her character was closely tied to Moff Gideon, who appeared to die in the Season 3 finale. Unless Gideon’s death was a deception, Kane might not be involved in any future storylines. However, recent signs suggest a fourth season of *The Mandalorian* may not happen at all.

Earlier this year, reports suggested that a fourth season of *The Mandalorian* might not happen. Instead, if the movie *The Mandalorian & Grogu* does well, Lucasfilm could make a sequel. It appears the studio is shifting its focus back to making films after concentrating on TV shows for several years. Currently, only the second season of *Ahsoka* is in production for live-action Star Wars. Lucasfilm is also developing a new lineup of films, with Shawn Levy’s *Star Wars: Starfighter* scheduled for release in May 2027. Kathleen Kennedy announced plans for several other films at Star Wars Celebration Japan earlier this year. While Lucasfilm continues to work on animated series like *Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord*, there’s been no news about additional live-action shows beyond *Ahsoka*.

While creating the second season of *Andor*, Disney informed showrunner Tony Gilroy that streaming was no longer the primary focus, suggesting a broader shift back to theatrical releases for Star Wars. Although Disney and its studios won’t stop making TV shows altogether—Marvel’s *Daredevil: Born Again* has already been renewed for a third season—the emphasis has changed. Initially, the goal was to flood the market with content during the rise of streaming, leading to an overabundance of projects from popular franchises like Marvel and Star Wars. This saturation arguably diminished the impact and uniqueness of these brands.

As a big fan, it feels like Disney finally realized maybe they were releasing *too* much stuff at once! They seem to be focusing on quality over quantity now, which I’m really hoping means the new Marvel and Star Wars projects will feel more special. I don’t think we’ll see another year like 2022 with *The Book of Boba Fett*, *Obi-Wan Kenobi*, and the first season of *Andor* all dropping so close together. Things are always subject to change, but right now, it looks like Star Wars is going to prioritize movies over endless streaming series, and honestly, that’s a relief!
