High Voltage won’t be taking home this championship trophy.
During the March 11th episode of The Masked Singer, one contestant was unmasked, revealing they were a retired professional soccer player. The show, a singing competition on Fox, saw the elimination of the performer behind the elaborate costume.
Former soccer player and Fox Sports commentator Alexi Lalas is reportedly out after a recent on-air comment.
Before revealing himself, the celebrity disguised as a mystery character suggested that his costume would give clues about who he really was.
He playfully hinted at the answer by showing a person in pink on horseback. This made Rita consider cowboys, and Jenny McCarthy quickly realized it referred to a football team.
Interestingly, nobody really noticed that High Voltage’s costume was actually a soccer ball shaped like a head.
Following their performance of Daniel Powter’s “Bad Day” on Care Bears Night, the band High Voltage got positive feedback from the judges.
Rita excitedly told the person she was speaking to that they were a delight and had positively impacted the entire season.
The 55-year-old then offered one final hint: “I’m a fan of country music, I like to make a grand appearance, and I’ve always felt young at heart.”

The judges didn’t guess correctly! Robin Thicke thought the masked athlete was Tom Brady, Jenny McCarthy picked Julian Edelman, Ken Jeong went with Travis Kelce, and Rita Ora guessed Jason Sudeikis. Everyone was surprised when the athlete was finally revealed, especially since, as Alexi noted, there had been a soccer ball on his head the whole time.
“By the way,” the Olympian joked during his send-off, “I’m so sorry I’m not Tom Brady.”
Although Alexi challenged the judges with his performance, he really enjoyed showcasing a different side of himself on the show.
He explained that he started playing music young, first in garage bands and later with a chamber choir. Even while he was involved in sports, music was a constant and important part of his life. But he emphasized that it wasn’t just about music or singing – it was something much deeper than that.
And how did being on The Masked Singer compare to playing in the World Cup?
He chuckled, saying he sweated more during this experience than he ever did playing soccer. He joked about sweating in places people wouldn’t want to see.
