The Matrix Legend Reveals His Dream X-Men Role Ahead of the MCU’s Recasting

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is heading into a big new phase with the upcoming movies *Avengers: Doomsday* and *Secret Wars*. These films will not only introduce Doctor Doom, but will also properly bring the X-Men into the MCU. It looks like characters from the 20th Century Fox X-Men movies will appear in both films, which will likely mean some actors will be replaced with new faces. Now, a famous actor from *The Matrix* has expressed interest in playing a major X-Men character, and it would be a perfect role for them.

Laurence Fishburne, best known for his iconic role as Morpheus in *The Matrix*, recently shared his interest in joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Speaking at a *Matrix* reunion panel during New York Comic Con (as reported by Entertainment Weekly), Fishburne said with the X-Men now part of Marvel, he’d love to be considered for the role of Professor X.

Laurence Fishburne Wants to Play Professor X, But Shoots Down Star Wars

When Laurence Fishburne shared his desire to play Professor X in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the audience erupted in cheers. Host Josh Horowitz playfully responded as if granting his wish, saying, “Approved, greenlit!” Fishburne then asked the audience what other role he should pursue, leading to suggestions that he could appear in a Star Wars film.

Laurence Fishburne loves Star Wars, but he wasn’t interested in joining the cast himself, and his explanation was perfect. He said, “I’m happy just watching everything, I’m currently enjoying Rebels, and I’m good with that. I don’t need to be *in* Star Wars—I don’t need a lightsaber!”

It looks like Laurence Fishburne won’t be appearing in shows like *The Mandalorian*, *Ahsoka*, or a potential *Starfighter* series. Still, the thought of him fighting the Empire with a lightsaber is pretty exciting! We also recently learned he’s a fan of *Rebels*, which shows he has excellent taste in television.

The MCU’s New X-Men Will Need a New Leader

Patrick Stewart has famously played Professor X in the Fox films, and he even appeared as the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a cameo in *Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness*. He’s set to return as Professor X in *Avengers: Doomsday*, but rumors suggest that the film will have significant consequences for characters from the pre-MCU franchises. While some might survive, it’s likely that very few, if any, will continue on in the MCU after this major storyline.

With a fresh start for the X-Men, a new Professor X feels right, and Laurence Fishburne would be a perfect fit. He’s already proven he can build and lead a team, like he did in *The Matrix*, and he’s currently joining another group in season 4 of *The Witcher* as the vampire Regis, who is part of Geralt’s inner circle. Hopefully, we’ll soon see Fishburne take on the role of Professor X and lead the X-Men in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
