As a die-hard cinema enthusiast, I must say that over the years, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has been nothing short of groundbreaking, weaving captivating stories for both seasoned and new fans alike. It’s almost as if this franchise is constantly pushing boundaries to surpass its own achievements, even when faced with the challenge of deciding which direction to take next.
From its inception, the MCU has set records by releasing the highest-grossing solo superhero film, shattering IMAX release records, and once even earning an actor a spot in the Guinness World Records (Wesley Snipes for the longest hiatus portraying a character). Now, Marvel fans are bracing themselves for yet another cinematic milestone, but it’s one that’s not exactly met with excitement.
As “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” approaches, Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) fans find themselves confronting one of the most significant breaks in MCU’s theatrical history. Although the iconic Marvel family will grace our screens on July 25, 2025, the next Marvel film won’t be released until next year, specifically on July 31, 2026 – that’s a full year and a day between films. This makes it the second-longest gap in MCU history, with the pandemic-induced delays being the only reason for a potentially longer break if we consider those effects.
The Longest Stretch Between Marvel Movies

Earlier, the biggest breaks between Marvel movies were found between the movie “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” which hit theaters on July 2, 2019, and the release of “Black Widow” on July 9, 2021. Due to the pandemic, “Black Widow” faced significant delays and ultimately received a joint release on Disney+ and in theaters.
It’s somewhat amusing that Spider-Man’s movies mark the start and end of significant breaks in the release schedule of Marvel Cinematic Universe films. For instance, following his solo run, “Spider-Man: Far From Home” was the second movie, while now, fans eagerly anticipate the fourth chapter of his adventures titled “Spider-Man: Brand New Day“.
Looking Forward to Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Enthusiasts were absolutely smitten when they saw our top three Spider-Men unite in “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” and understandably so, lots of them have been eagerly awaiting the next installment. Regrettably, we still have a year to wait, but each day brings us one step closer.
In a Fresh Start for Spider-Man: A New Journey, Director Destin Daniel Cretton, known for his work on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, will take charge. The narrative finds Peter Parker (Tom Holland) navigating a world where no one recognizes him. Fans have been eagerly discussing casting decisions and other details, with much more yet to be unveiled.
MCU Disney+ Show: A Silver Lining

Although the year-long gaps between Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie premieres might seem excruciatingly long, there’s a silver lining in this scenario. Marvel is preparing to launch various television productions, starting with “Eyes of Wakanda”. This four-part animated anthology is slated for release on August 6, 2025. The narrative will explore the rich history and underlying principles of Wakanda, providing a detailed look at the events shaping it into the nation we know today. The talented cast includes Winnie Harlow, Cress Williams, Patricia Belcher, among others, lending their voices to the characters.
Fans can expect to enjoy the upcoming Marvel animated series, “Marvel Zombies,” starting in October 2025. This series, as its title suggests, offers a chilling tale about Marvel’s iconic heroes and villains transforming into undead creatures. Similar to “Eyes of Wakanda,” “Marvel Zombies” will be a four-episode animated series. Given that the core idea was initially depicted in Marvel’s “What If…?” series, it might be wise for fans to catch up by binge-watching both seasons while waiting for its release.
2025’s December lineup is all set to unveil the Marvel series titled “Wonder Man“. In this humorous escapade, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II embodies Simon Williams (Wonder Man), a superpowered individual striving for roles in a superhero franchise – quite the twist for an actor! Notably, Ben Kingsley returns to his role as Trevor Slattery.
To wrap things up, it’s been confirmed that “Daredevil: Born Again” season 2 will debut on Disney+ in March 2026. The plot is expected to continue from where we last saw it, and some exciting updates have already surfaced – such as Krysten Ritter potentially reprising her role as Jessica Jones. In the meantime, if you haven’t already, now might be a great opportunity to refresh your memory on the Netflix series featuring those key characters.
