2026 promises to be a significant year for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. One upcoming project offers a chance to improve upon a storyline many fans found disappointing in the earlier ‘Infinity Saga’ films. While the current ‘Multiverse Saga’ has faced criticism for not reaching the high storytelling standards of its predecessor, it’s worth remembering that even the ‘Infinity Saga’ wasn’t flawless.
The Infinity Saga was hugely successful, creating some of the highest-grossing films ever and establishing a massively popular franchise. However, it wasn’t perfect. Thor: The Dark World wasn’t well-received, but many fans found Avengers: Age of Ultron, the sequel to the first Avengers film, even more underwhelming.
James Spader Is Returning As Ultron In VisionQuest
Although Age of Ultron got a mixed reaction from critics, and many praised James Spader’s portrayal of Ultron, the character itself didn’t quite live up to its comic book origins. A major issue was that Ultron was defeated too quickly – wrapping up his storyline in just one movie felt unsatisfying.
As a big MCU fan, I’m really excited to hear they’re bringing Ultron back! James Spader is returning for the VisionQuest series, and honestly, it’s about time. It feels like Ultron never got the full exploration he deserved, and with the Multiverse Saga wrapping up, this seems like the perfect opportunity for Marvel to really dive into his character and give him the development he’s always needed.
Avengers: Age Of Ultron Wasted One Of Marvel’s Greatest Villains
As a long-time comics fan, I’ve always known Ultron as a seriously powerful villain – a real threat even to the biggest, most cosmic-level baddies. He’s incredibly smart and just never gives up. That’s why I was so disappointed with how easily he was defeated in Age of Ultron. The way he can connect to any technology and essentially live online, he should have been much harder to take down – it just didn’t feel right!
James Spader’s Ultron Return Will Be Nothing Like His Avengers Movie
Marvel Studios has previously updated the character of Ultron, most notably with the multiversal threat seen in What If…?, where he caused widespread destruction and even confronted the Watchers. Despite that version, fans will be thrilled to see Jim Spader reprise his role as Ultron in a live-action appearance.
Based on what we know about the series so far—including the news that Robert Spader will be portraying a human version of Ultron—it’s evident this Ultron will be quite different from the one seen in Avengers: Age of Ultron.
This significant alteration might create new challenges for how the character appears in VisionQuest, but we’re hopeful that the MCU can create something truly memorable, building on its experience from the past decade.
