Teamwork is becoming crucial in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With the powerful Doctor Doom potentially arriving, groups like the Fantastic Four and X-Men are starting to form. However, the next major movie, *Avengers: Doomsday*, will focus on Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. A new Avengers team is already assembling, led by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, who has revealed a group of reformed mercenaries are stepping up to fill the void left by Tony Stark and the original Avengers. While Sam Wilson (the new Captain America) will likely challenge this new team, he’s keeping his plans close to the vest.
It’s not hard to guess who Sam Wilson might choose for his Captain America team – there are only a few powerful heroes who aren’t already part of other established groups. However, Sam needs to be cautious, as one possible recruit is currently associating with a familiar group of villains from the comics. Luckily, this team won’t be sticking around in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for very long.
The MCU Has Finally Brought the Agents of Atlas Together

Surprisingly, the new Marvel Studios series, *Marvel Zombies*, continues the story from the *What If…?* episode “What If… Zombies?!” While that episode focused on a specific group, *Marvel Zombies* introduces new characters like Kamala Khan, Blade, and Valkyrie. Shang-Chi is also part of the story, and his journey is quite different from what we saw in the films. In this zombie universe, Shang-Chi’s father, Wenwu, travels to San Francisco to rescue his son, but sadly dies trying. He leaves the Ten Rings to Shang-Chi, who uses them to protect his friends – Death Dealer, Jimmy Woo, and Katy.
Over the next five years, Shang-Chi and his friends journey across the country in vehicles reminiscent of those in *Mad Max*, searching for a place to settle down. While it makes sense that Katy and Death Dealer would continue traveling with Shang-Chi, as they were all in the same movie, the inclusion of Jimmy is noteworthy. In the comics, Jimmy assembles a team called the Agents of Atlas, and Shang-Chi later becomes a key member. Although Jimmy doesn’t formally name this group in the film, it’s clearly meant to be the foundation for the Agents of Atlas. However, given their struggles, it doesn’t look like we’ll be seeing the Agents of Atlas come to life on screen anytime soon.
Marvel Zombies‘ Agents of Atlas Can’t Hold a Candle to the Avengers or X-Men

Once safely in New Orleans, Shang-Chi and his allies joined forces with Kamala’s team, who were trying to reach New Asgard and send a message into space. They finally got their opportunity after escaping the Raft, but Scarlet Witch was waiting for them. Her army of the undead overwhelmed Shang-Chi’s group, killing many of his friends. Their leader also fell in the final fight with Scarlet Witch, succumbing to a zombie attack. The Agents of Atlas struggled, lacking the powerful resources of teams like the Avengers or X-Men.
While a sequel to *Shang-Chi* could potentially reunite the Agents of Atlas, it probably wouldn’t be a good idea right now. Key members like Death Dealer are already gone, and Katy lacks the skills to effectively use the Ten Rings outside of her experience with a bow. This would leave Shang-Chi to handle everything himself, and he’d likely be more effective focusing on the Avengers. Bringing the Agents of Atlas back together might make sense further down the line, but currently, forming another team simply for the sake of it doesn’t feel necessary for the MCU.
