The Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been in a bit of a confusing situation for the past few years. Being defeated by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War really affected him, leading to him refusing to transform when they needed to fight Thanos again. Bruce Banner took a risk by merging his mind with the Hulk’s body, and it worked – he was able to use the Nano Gauntlet in Avengers: Endgame to reverse the Snap. However, that was the last significant thing Hulk did in the MCU, and he hasn’t had a major role since. Luckily, things are finally looking promising for the strongest one there is.
2026 is set to be a big year for the Hulk, as he’s scheduled to appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day with Spider-Man and the Punisher. According to reports, a specific version of the character from the comics will finally be brought to life on screen, causing plenty of trouble. If this happens, it will be fantastic to see the Hulk unleashed again. Despite this, he won’t be the most powerful character in the MCU, as a new variant has just been introduced that seems unbeatable.
Hulk Gets a Major Upgrade in Marvel Zombies

Life on Earth-616 faced a major crisis when half of all living beings vanished, but that pales in comparison to the problems in the world of Marvel Zombies. A strange quantum virus transforms most people into undead creatures, and Scarlet Witch complicates matters further by creating an army determined to take over the planet. Kamala Khan embarks on a mission to send a message into space, hoping to reach the Nova Corps, who possess the ability to fix things. However, her group faces obstacle after obstacle, and by the time they arrive at New Asgard, hope is dwindling. Luckily, the wizards at Kamar-Taj offer a glimmer of optimism when they reveal that Bruce Banner is still actively working to save the day.
Spider-Man explained that after they – himself, Scott Lang, and T’Challa – reached Wakanda as the outbreak began, they found zombie Thanos already there, having obtained all of the Infinity Stones. To prevent an even greater disaster, Black Panther made the ultimate sacrifice, destroying Thanos and the stones. However, T’Challa’s act created a huge burst of energy that put the entire planet at risk. Bruce Banner volunteered to absorb the energy, but it completely erased his personality. Now, only an extraordinarily powerful Hulk remains, and Scarlet Witch plans to use him as a source of energy. Even though she’ll get what she wants, it’s still likely that this Infinity Hulk could defeat almost anyone in a fair fight. It’s a dangerous situation.
Savage Hulk Will Have to Play Second Fiddle to Infinity Hulk

The ultimate challenge to Infinity Hulk’s strength arrives when an undead Thor seeks him out for a battle. In Thor: Ragnarok, the God of Thunder initially defeats Hulk during their work fight, but the Grandmaster interrupts before Hulk can be fully defeated. Hulk gets his payback in Marvel Zombies, decisively beating Thor – even though Thanos couldn’t manage that. Hulk even crushes Thor’s head, but becomes momentarily unaware of his surroundings, allowing the Scarlet Witch to approach and touch him. Although it’s unknown what happens to Banner’s alter ego after this, it’s likely destroyed, as its immense power wouldn’t fit with the MCU’s efforts to rehabilitate the original Hulk’s reputation.
As a fan, everything suggests we’re finally going to see the Savage Hulk join the MCU in Brand New Day. It seems like a villain will probably unleash him as a distraction for Spider-Man, taking his attention away from their main plan. What I find so interesting about the Savage Hulk is that he’s purely instinctual – he just wants to destroy everything around him because that’s all he’s capable of. I’m expecting it will take a lot to take down this version of the Hulk in Brand New Day, but probably not more than what we saw when dealing with the Infinity Hulk. Think about it – it takes a really powerful and determined villain to build an army as massive and frightening as the one Scarlet Witch assembled!
Marvel Zombies is streaming on Disney+.
