The MCU Might Have Just Confirmed the Final Member of Sam Wilson’s Avengers Team (& It’s Over a Decade in the Making)

Figuring out the plot of Avengers: Doomsday is proving difficult. Almost all we know about the movie comes from the cast list revealed during a recent event. Over 20 actors are confirmed to be in the film, and many of their roles are already known. Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach will return as the Fantastic Four, and Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, and other actors from the X-Men movies will reprise their mutant roles after over 20 years.

We still need to figure out the two Avengers teams. The first one is fairly straightforward – the ending of Thunderbolts showed that team becoming the New Avengers, and they’re a close group who probably won’t be adding new members. Sam Wilson’s team, currently just him and Joaquin Torres, definitely needs more people. While it seems easy to assemble Captain America’s team from the remaining heroes, Marvel Studios might have a surprise in store.

Marvel May Be Ready to Announce the Final Avengers Team in Doomsday

Disney, like all movie studios, loves to promote its upcoming films. But they go all out, using every opportunity to showcase what they’re working on. At a recent Italian film event called Giornate Di Cinema Sorrento, Disney presented updates on several projects. They highlighted Avatar: Fire and Ash, which is soon to be released in theaters, and Toy Story 5, which has just finished recording its voice work. The presentation concluded with Doomsday, and while much of the segment focused on the cast, a particular graphic offered a potential hint about the film’s storyline.

Instead of showing all the potential team members at once, the announcement revealed them in segments. Groups like the Fantastic Four, X-Men, and New Avengers each got their own visual. Anthony Mackie’s name appeared with actors playing characters connected to his, such as Chris Hemsworth, Paul Rudd, Danny Ramirez, and Simu Liu. The only exception was Tom Hiddleston, who plays Loki. Given Loki’s responsibilities, he wouldn’t easily join a team. However, the person coordinating this event – referred to as ‘Doomsday’ – has the power to change things up, potentially making a former enemy the Avengers’ key player.

Loki Deserves to Be an Avenger in the MCU

Just a few years ago, the thought of Loki becoming a hero seemed impossible. He died in Avengers: Infinity War after fighting Thanos, and even though a Disney+ series was planned, it didn’t seem like it would really matter to the overall story. However, that turned out to be wrong. Loki has become one of Disney+’s most important shows, and it completely redeems the character. Throughout the series, Loki makes friends, embraces being a hero, and ultimately makes a huge sacrifice to save the multiverse in the Season 2 finale.

Currently, Loki remains in charge at the End of Time, guarding the multiverse. However, Doctor Doom is likely planning to take him down. While Loki is more powerful now and could potentially fight Doom off, it’s a risky move. Instead, Loki should seek out his brother, who will probably rejoin the Avengers. Getting the team to trust Loki will be difficult, especially considering Sam Wilson’s past experiences with reformed villains, but the situation is dire enough that they need all the help they can get. If Loki offers to help, the Avengers will have to accept his offer and give him a chance to prove he’s truly changed.

Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18, 2026.
