As a movie connoisseur, I must say that this year has seen an impressive expansion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with fresh narratives and characters gracing our screens in Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts*, and Fantastic Four: First Steps. Among these, each film offers a contemporary perspective within the grand timeline, yet they are not the sole novelties; remarkably, the most recent addition is set at the very dawn of this cinematic journey.
*Note: Thunderbolts was not actually released in 2023, but it’s part of the MCU 2023 slate.
The latest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a four-part series titled “Eyes of Wakanda,” which is streaming on Disney+. Unlike the other three recent releases, this series takes place way back in time. Thanks to Disney+’s official MCU timeline, we can confirm that it’s set at the earliest point in the chronology.
The show centers around the ancient history of the Hatut Zeraze, or Wakandan War Dogs, and it starts in approximately 1260 BC. This makes it earlier than the events depicted in Captain America: The First Avenger (year) and Agent Carter (year). Consequently, Eyes of Wakanda becomes the earliest installment in the timeline, following Agent Carter. Subsequent events are set in the 90’s with Captain Marvel, and then leap into contemporary times with Iron Man. You can explore the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) timeline below.
