The Marvel Cinematic Universe has a huge cast of characters, and some, like Shang-Chi, haven’t gotten the follow-up they deserve. Despite a well-received solo film released in Phase 4, Shang-Chi is still waiting for a sequel, but he’s been included in the upcoming *Avengers: Doomsday* movie. While his role remains unknown, that’s true for most of the characters, as Marvel is keeping details about the film closely guarded. What *is* certain is that Doctor Doom will appear and pose a major threat to the Avengers.
It seems unlikely that the *Doomsday* event will introduce many new characters beyond Doctor Doom. He’ll already be dealing with major teams like the Avengers, Fantastic Four, and X-Men. Still, there’s a chance a lesser-known character might finally get their moment to shine. One of the writers even has a specific hero in mind that fans would be excited to see appear.
While discussing his new project, *Chad Powers*, *Loki* creator Michael Waldron told *The Playlist* he believes Glen Powell would be perfect for the role of Nova in the Marvel Universe. He specifically stated, “He’d be a pretty good Nova.”
The Nova Corps has connections to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, having appeared in *Guardians of the Galaxy* and assisting the team against Ronan the Accuser. They also appear in the animated series *Marvel Zombies*. While Marvel Studios hasn’t yet introduced Nova as a character, a planned TV series about the hero has faced some development challenges, likely contributing to the delay.
Signing a popular actor like Powell would quickly boost the Nova project and prevent it from being delayed further. Marvel might not even need to do much persuading, as Powell has previously expressed a desire to play a superhero.
Glen Powell Isn’t Above Being in a Superhero Movie

Even with recent success in popular movies like *Top Gun: Maverick* and *Hit Man*, Glen Powell remembers his roots. He got one of his first roles as a stockbroker threatened by Bane in *The Dark Knight Rises*. Though it was a small part, that experience sparked a lasting love for the action genre.
In a 2024 interview with *The Playlist*, Powell said he’d be interested in playing a superhero, but he’s currently waiting for a studio to offer him a role.
I’ve never been contacted by DC or Marvel, but I’m a big fan of their work. I recently saw *Deadpool & Wolverine* and absolutely loved it! I think Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds did something really special with that movie – it’s just a really fun experience for audiences, and I’m rooting for them and everything they do.
