What Is The Connection Between Venus De Milo And The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?

To see why adding Venus to the group is significant, we need to look back to 1997. That’s when Saban Entertainment – the creators of Power Rangers – launched a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show called TMNT: The Next Mutation. This series introduced a fifth Turtle, Venus De Milo, and also changed the established backstory of how the Turtles originally came to be.

The updated story shows that five baby turtles were originally exposed to the mutagen, but one was separated from the group and found by a ninja master. After her mentor was killed, she discovered the existence of her four brothers in New York and later found her way back to them.

Although the idea of adding a female Turtle seemed interesting, fans weren’t happy with the changes made to the characters’ backgrounds and the team dynamic. Other adjustments to the Turtles, along with the absence of April O’Neal and Casey Jones, also contributed to the show’s poor reception. However, the addition of Venus received the most criticism, and the series was cancelled after just one season.

Venus reappeared in comics in 2022, and now she’s back for an exciting crossover event. We can’t wait to see how the creative team incorporates her into what’s already looking like a fantastic conclusion to the story.

The fifth issue of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be available in comic book shops on March 18, 2026.
