While many athletes are winning medals at the 2026 Olympics, others are also achieving success.
Like past Winter Olympics, the Milano Cortina Games offered free condoms to athletes at the Olympic Village. However, this year they seem to have run out quickly.
One athlete, speaking to the Italian newspaper La Stampa but requesting to remain unnamed, said the supplies were gone after only three days. They were told more were on the way, but thereâs no certainty about when theyâll arrive.
And it seems Olympic officials have an answer to that when.
Organizers of the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympics confirmed they briefly ran out of condoms at the Olympic Villages because more were needed than expected. They are sending more supplies now, and will have them available at all Villages by today or Monday. They plan to keep restocking throughout the Games to make sure there are always enough.
Before condoms became scarce, Spanish skater Olivia Smart explained in a video how she searched for them in the Olympic Village. The video was later shared by Attilio Fontana, the president of Lombardy.

In a TikTok posted on February 6th, she excitedly announced, âI found them! They have everything you need,â while showing a close-up of the packaging for the 2026 Olympics.
And that, according to Fontana, whose region counts Milan as its capital, was by design.
According to a February 8th Facebook post, translated from Italian and reported by The Athletic, Olympic organizers do provide free condoms to athletes in the Olympic Village. The practice, which started at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, aims to promote awareness of sexually transmitted disease prevention among athletes and young people, and shouldnât be considered embarrassing.
As one of the host cities for the games, along with Cortina d’Ampezzo, Milan felt a strong duty to ensure the athletes were well taken care of. Their priority, as they stated, was “Health comes first: proactive prevention and practical measures.”
The Olympic experience isn’t uniform for all athletes, particularly for teams like the Canadian Menâs Hockey Team who chose not to stay in the Olympic Village.

In a February 9th interview with SportsNet, goaltender Logan Thompson explained that the teamâs actions werenât meant to be disrespectful. He said, “Weâre focused on winning gold and want to maximize our chances of doing so.”
Although the athletes aren’t staying in the famous Olympic bunks, they are fully participating in and celebrating the Games’ traditions.
He emphasized the importance of gaining that experience, saying it would be great to connect with other athletes and watch events at the Olympics.
