Mattel is marking the 35th anniversary of Tim Burton’s classic film, Edward Scissorhands, with a new doll as part of their Monster High Skullcollector series. We received a sample to review, and we think it’s a fantastic take on Johnny Depp’s look – though it’s tough to top last month’s Monster High Alien Xenomorph doll! Knowing Tim Burton fans are dedicated and have strong opinions, we anticipate some discussion about the doll’s design. Let’s take a closer look.
The Edward Scissorhands Monster High doll features a black, faux-leather outfit with buckle details, a heart-shaped headband, and, naturally, scissor hands. She also has a sheer skirt that matches her unique hairstyle. Her tall, heeled boots are inspired by memorable scenes from the movie, referencing the dinosaur bushes and the ice angel. The doll includes a stand and a certificate of authenticity, and stands 10.5 inches tall with multiple points of articulation for posing.
Monster High Skullcollector Edward Scissorhands Review and Launch Date

order at mattel creations on december 4th ($70)
I finally got to see one of the Monster High and Skullcollector figures up close, and it’s easy to see why people collect them! While the figure isn’t made with high-end materials, it would definitely look great on display. I enjoy it, but I can also understand why some Tim Burton fans might not like the big, cute eyes or the choice of a female character mold instead of a male one. There are a few other minor details with the design and packaging that some people might find fault with, too.
This new doll release is likely to be very popular and sell out quickly, especially for collectors. Similar Monster High dolls have disappeared almost instantly, and we anticipate the Edward Scissorhands doll will follow suit, though perhaps not as rapidly as the Xenomorph doll. If you’re hoping to purchase one for $70, you’ll need to be a Mattel Creations member and be prepared to buy it as soon as it launches on December 4th at 9am Pacific Time / 12pm Eastern Time. Each customer can only purchase a maximum of two dolls.
Edward Scissorhands Launches on 4K Blu-ray

Everyone will likely be happy to hear that Edward Scissorhands is now available on 4K Blu-ray for its 35th anniversary! The special Steelbook edition looks fantastic, and it’s currently available and shipping from both Amazon and Walmart.
As a film critic, I have to say the biggest draw here is Disney’s stunning restoration of this classic. They’ve really brought it to life with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos sound. While the bonus features feel a little dated – think a standard behind-the-scenes look and commentary from Tim Burton and Danny Elfman – it’s the visual and audio upgrade that truly shines. And let’s talk about the packaging! This Steelbook is gorgeous, featuring a haunting image of Kim’s reflection in broken glass on the front cover. Flip it over, and you’ll see her reflected in Edward’s scissor blades. Inside, there’s a beautiful illustration of Edward coming down the stairs – it’s a collector’s item for sure.
