As a big fan of the It universe, I’m really excited about season 2 of Welcome to Derry. It’s cool that while we’ll meet a lot of new characters, one familiar face from the first season will be back alongside Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise. Honestly, even with all the It movies and shows out there, Welcome to Derry feels especially strong. What’s interesting is that unlike the original miniseries or the recent movies, this HBO show isn’t based on a specific part of Stephen King’s book, which gives the creators a lot of freedom.
The new prequel had the potential to be a major disappointment, or at best, not as good as the first two It movies. Luckily, It: Welcome to Derry exceeded expectations. With Bill Skarsgard returning as Pennywise and the show offering insightful social commentary, it proved to be a worthy continuation of the series. Many viewers actually found the ’60s-set horror show even more frightening and emotionally resonant than the original films, thanks to its extended length.
Ingrid Kersh Has To Appear In It: Welcome To Derry Season 2

One of the things that made the first season of It: Welcome to Derry so clever now presents a big challenge for the show’s future. The story of It says Pennywise the Clown returns to terrorize Derry every 27 years, and the grown-up Losers Club finally stopped him for good. Because of this, season one couldn’t adapt the events of It: Chapter Two, which takes place in 2016, and it also couldn’t show Pennywise’s previous attack, which was already depicted in the 2017 film It.
The miniseries It: Welcome to Derry took viewers back to the 1960s and surprisingly introduced Madeleine Stowe as Ingrid Kersh, a disturbed woman who believes Pennywise is her father. Kersh becomes an ally to Pennywise and later transforms into the terrifying old woman Beverly encounters in her apartment in It: Chapter 2.
Kersh is a compelling character, and her conviction that Pennywise is her father is surprisingly understandable. While her biological father, Bob Gray, was a kind and supportive single parent who encouraged her dream of joining the circus, he tragically became one of Pennywise’s adult victims. The monster somehow absorbed Gray’s identity, allowing it to take his form. This enabled Pennywise to exploit Kersh, posing as her father and manipulating her into providing victims, as shown in flashbacks set in 1935.
It: Welcome To Derry Season 2’s Ingrid Kersh Story Could Be Even Sadder

With season 2 of It: Welcome To Derry jumping back 27 years to show Pennywise’s final feeding before the 1960s, we can expect to see more of Sister Mary Kersh and her disturbing actions at Juniper Hill Asylum. This storyline is compelling because while Kersh’s choice to offer children to Pennywise is terrifying, her belief that the creature might be her father’s spirit adds a layer of sadness to her character.
I’ve always found it interesting how Pennywise preys on people with serious issues – like Henry Bowers, who was just awful. It made it hard to feel bad for those who helped the monster. But I’m really excited about what Jay Kersh is doing with the second season of Welcome to Derry. It seems like her character might be genuinely good, a truly kind person, and that’s heartbreaking to think of It manipulating someone like that. It could really change how we see those who fall under Pennywise’s spell.
