The streaming service boasts an extensive library featuring films from successful horror series such as “Scream,” “A Quiet Place,” and “Smile.” As Paramount+ recently updated its streaming catalog in early August, it introduced several new titles that are sure to please horror fans, including one of the most renowned horror franchises from the 2010s now available for streaming.
Starting from August 1st, all six original Paranormal Activity films – such as the 2007 version, the sequels from 2010 to 2015, and even Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones and Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension – can be found streaming on Paramount+. Plus, their latest original movie, Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin, is also available there. Now, Paramount+ serves as the streaming destination for the entire Paranormal Activity series.
In 2007, the horror franchise was kick-started with the release of the movie Paranormal Activity, which was written, directed, and edited by Oren Peli. The film centers around a young couple, Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat, who experience a terrifying supernatural haunting in their new suburban home. To document their ordeal, they set up video cameras throughout their house. This low-budget found footage movie not only revitalized the subgenre and sent shivers down the spines of viewers, but also paved the way for one of the most successful horror franchises in history.
Initially, the movie was made for just $15,000, yet it raked in an impressive $193 million worldwide, making it one of the most financially successful films ever produced. Over time, the Paranormal Activity series has grown to become one of the highest-grossing horror franchises globally. With a collective budget of approximately $28 million spread across all seven movies, this franchise has amassed a total box office revenue of $890 million, surpassing other legendary series like Halloween, Predator, and Insidious. In terms of overall earnings, it ranks 11th, with the original film still leading as the highest-grossing installment and being highly appreciated by horror enthusiasts.
