The beloved children’s show, famous for being one of the most popular of all time, is back with new episodes! After a summer of uncertainty when it lost its original home on streaming and cable, a new agreement was reached. Now, Netflix will produce more episodes, and the show will still be available for free on PBS.
After its agreement with Warner Bros. Discovery and HBO ended, Sesame Street is now available on Netflix. New episodes began streaming Monday, with four half-hour shows launching on the platform. More classic Sesame Street episodes will be added later, though Netflix hasn’t announced exactly how many will be available.
New episodes of Sesame Street began streaming on Monday, kicking off the release of Season 56. Three groups of episodes will be available in total, with two more coming soon – though we don’t know exactly when those will be released. Families can watch the new season on PBS and the PBS KIDS app and website, so a subscription isn’t required.
As a big fan of Sesame Street, I was really touched to hear from executive producer Sal Perez that this season is all about kindness and compassion. He said it’s what kids need most right now, and honestly, I think we all could use a little more of that these days.
New Sesame Street on Netflix
Along with moving to Netflix, the 56th season of Sesame Street features a slightly updated format. Each new episode now focuses on a single, longer 11-minute story, giving characters more room to develop and storylines to unfold. The show will still include familiar segments like Elmo’s World, Cookie Monster’s Foodie Truck, Abby’s Magic Beasties, and Tales From 123.
Your favorite characters are all returning for the new season of Sesame Street, now available on Netflix after moving from HBO! So far, only two celebrity guests have been announced for Season 56: Miley Cyrus and NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace. Netflix promises more stars will visit Sesame Street this season, but they’re keeping the rest a surprise for now.
To mark the upcoming arrival of Sesame Street on Netflix, the streaming service shared a fun video featuring the show’s famous characters playfully “trying out” for roles in popular Netflix series like Bridgerton, Stranger Things, and I Think You Should Leave. You can watch the video above!
