The Most Stressful Video Game of All-Time Is About to Become a TV Show on Netflix (And You Could Be On It)

Netflix is constantly updating its library with fresh shows and movies, recently adding season 2 of Nobody Wants This, the fourth season of The Witcher, and the hit series KPop Demon Hunters. Now, they’re planning a TV adaptation of a famously challenging video game, and they’re looking for people to participate in the production!

A24 has secured the rights to the popular video game Overcooked and will partner with Netflix to create a reality show based on it, according to Deadline. The show is reportedly in the very early stages of development and will be similar in style to popular Netflix unscripted series like Nailed It! and Floor is Lava. This format is expected to be a good fit for the game’s chaotic and collaborative nature.

If the show moves forward, each episode will introduce new chefs who will compete against each other in a high-stakes cooking competition, offering a chance for you to be on the program. Gemma Langford, Oli De-Vine, and Phil Duncan from Ghost Town Games are executive producers.

If you haven’t tried Overcooked, you’re in for a really fun cooking game! One to four players team up as chefs to make and serve dishes as orders keep coming. Working together is key – you’ll need to divide tasks, like one person chopping vegetables while another cooks, then switch to boiling stew and washing dishes. It’s already a challenge, but things quickly get even more chaotic!

The game starts simply, but quickly introduces increasingly complex kitchens and challenges. Later levels change everything – the kitchen’s design, the obstacles, and even separate the players, forcing even better teamwork as you pass items back and forth. You might find yourselves cooking on floating islands, in a busy city kitchen with pedestrians, or even on kitchens built on ships that are falling apart. With levels featuring conveyor belts and pesky rats, the variety Netflix offers is truly limitless.

The first Overcooked game came out in 2016 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, and was later brought to the Nintendo Switch in 2017. It won two BAFTA Games Awards in 2017, and in 2018, a sequel, Overcooked 2, was released. In 2020, Overcooked: All You Can Eat launched, combining both games and all their downloadable content with remastered graphics. This edition also included 22 new levels and 3 new chefs. Overcooked: All You Can Eat is currently available on PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox One & Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
