The Mummy 4 Confirms One Of the Best Characters Is Returning (But Some Are Still Missing)

Good news for fans of The Mummy movies starring Brendan Fraser! Not only is a brand new, terrifying Mummy film coming out this year from director Lee Cronin – promising a truly scary experience for horror lovers – but a fourth movie featuring Fraser and Rachel Weisz is also in the works. Fraser will reprise his role as Rick O’Connell, and Weisz is returning as Evy, bringing back the adventure and excitement that fans enjoyed in the original films.

Great news for fans of the original films: John Hannah, who famously played Jonathan Carnahan, is confirmed to be back for the new movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter. However, one major star from the original cast has yet to be announced.

Who Is and Isn’t Returning for The Mummy 4

The biggest news about The Mummy 4 is the return of Brenden Fraser and Rachel Weisz as Rick and Evy O’Connell. Fans were hoping for more familiar faces, so the news that John Hannah will reprise his role as the mischievous Jonathan is a welcome development. While no other casting details are available, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (known as Radio Silence) are confirmed to direct. However, fans are still eager to see two other key actors from previous films appear, though bringing one of them back might present a challenge.

Fans are hoping to see Oded Fehr return to the franchise. He played Ardeth Bay, the leader of the Medjai – an ancient group originally tasked with protecting the Pharaoh and preventing Imhotep’s return. For over three thousand years, the Medjai guarded against anyone who might revive him, either by eliminating them or driving them away. Eventually, Ardeth Bay joins forces with Rick and Evy to help defeat Imhotep and later assists them in stopping the Scorpion King in the second movie.

Another notable absence is Imhotep. Although this new film features a different mummy, Arnold Vosloo delivered a fantastic performance as Imhotep in the original The Mummy and The Mummy Returns. While his character seemingly met his end in the second film, horror movies often bring villains back. Seeing Vosloo reprise his role as Imhotep, alongside Oded Fehr as Ardeth, could finally give fans the Mummy 4 they’ve been hoping for.
