The Mummy 4 Is Finally Happening With Brendan Fraser. Everything We Know About The Adventure Franchise’s Return

It’s been more than 25 years since Brendan Fraser first thrilled audiences as Rick O’Connell in the classic 90s film, The Mummy. While the movie series seemed to have ended and been forgotten by Universal Studios, it’s now making a comeback to theaters. Get ready to return to Egypt…

Even though the fourth installment in the popular adventure series is still being developed, we’ve gathered a lot of information. We’ll cover returning cast members, the creative team working on the film, and other details. Here’s everything we know about The Mummy 4, or whatever its final title may be.

What Is The Mummy 4 Release Date?

While fans are hoping to see The Mummy 4 in 2026, it’s more realistic to expect the movie sometime in 2027 or later. Production hasn’t begun, the cast isn’t complete, and 2026 is already full of other movie releases, including those from Universal.

As a huge movie fan, I’ll definitely keep you all updated on when we find out when this film will actually hit theaters. It might be a few months, or even a couple of years, but I’ll share any news as soon as I hear it!

The Mummy 4 Cast

News about a potential fourth Mummy movie started in November 2025 when The Hollywood Reporter announced that Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz were in talks to reprise their roles as Rick and Evelyn O’Connell. Considering their popularity in the first two Mummy films (Weisz didn’t appear in the third, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor), bringing them back feels like a logical step, though official confirmation is still pending.

We don’t yet know who else will be in The Mummy 4, or if any of the original actors will return alongside new faces. However, it seems likely John Hannah’s character, Jonathan Carnahan, will be back – he was a comedic highlight in the previous films. The same could be said for Arnold Vosloo as Imhotep, the mummy himself. Despite dying a few times, his return wouldn’t be surprising, unless the story avoids including cats.

What Is The Mummy 4 About?

I’m really excited about the possibility of The Mummy 4! From what I’ve heard, and a source told The Hollywood Reporter this, it won’t be a complete restart of the franchise. Instead, it’s going to be a true sequel, continuing the story… but it sounds like they’re going to move past everything that happened in Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Universal hasn’t officially said anything yet, but that’s the buzz!

The original Mummy films were set in Egypt, jumping between ancient history and the 1920s and 30s, so a new movie in the mid-20th century would fit well. While the 2008 film isn’t being included in the new storyline, it was set in the 1940s, which feels like a natural place to continue the adventures of Rick, Evelyn, and their family.

Radio Silence, The Team Behind The Newer Scream Movies, Is Set To Direct

The first two Mummy films were directed by Stephen Sommers, who also produced the third, directed by Rob Cohen. But neither of them will be involved with the newest movie. According to Variety, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett – known as Radio Silence – will be directing this revival of the Mummy franchise.

You might recognize the name Radio Silence – this filmmaking duo is behind some of the most popular horror movies of recent years, including the latest Scream films (2022 and Scream VI), Abigail, Ready or Not, and several entries in the V/H/S series. Besides potentially working on a fourth Mummy movie, they’re currently making a sequel to Ready or Not, titled Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, which is expected to be released in April 2026.

I was doing some digging and found out our Radio Silence team isn’t the only one with a Scream connection! David Coggeshall, who wrote the script for the planned Mummy 4, actually worked on the Scream TV series way back in 2013. He’s also been involved in some other cool projects like Orphan: First Kill, The Family Plan, and The Deliverance. It’s awesome seeing so much talent with a shared history involved!

This Isn’t The Only Mummy Movie in The Works

It’s a bit complicated: we’re getting two Mummy projects! Not only is the original Brendan Fraser Mummy series being revived, but Universal is also rebooting their classic monster movies from the early days of Hollywood. In 2024, Lee Cronin, who directed Evil Dead Rise, was confirmed to be directing a new Mummy movie, with Atomic Monster and Blumhouse producing.

The new Mummy movie, starring Jack Reynor and Laia Costa, is scheduled to come out on April 17, 2026. We’ve inquired about the film previously, but many details remain unknown. We expect to learn more about this horror movie in the near future.

How To Watch The Other Mummy Movies

A fourth Mummy movie is still a couple of years away, which is a great time to rewatch or discover the existing films. Whether you’re new to the series or just need a reminder of what happened before, it’s easy to revisit the adventures. Although the latest installment, Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, might not be considered part of the official story going forward, we’ve included options for watching it anyway, for those interested.
