Sony’s fledgling mobile strategy is slowly coming into focus.
This week, Sony revealed Ratchet & Clank: Galaxy Rangers, a new mobile game where players battle each other in arena-style multiplayer matches.
Just before G-STAR in Korea, NCSoft officially unveiled their highly anticipated MMO, Horizon Steel Frontiers. The game is planned for release on both PC and mobile platforms, but there are currently no plans for a PlayStation 5 version.
You can find the trailer on The Verge, but it showcases gameplay similar to the Horizon series, where a hunter calms and controls robotic creatures.
This mobile game, based on the popular MMO, lets you play with thousands of other players at the same time.
Here’s what Guerrilla’s Jan-Bart van Beek said in the leaked press release:
Horizon Steel Frontiers is a complete role-playing game designed for mobile devices by NCSoft. It lets you explore a vast world, inspired by the landscapes of Arizona and New Mexico, whenever and wherever you like. In the game, you play as a machine hunter in a dangerous region called the Deathlands. You’ll join thousands of other players, sometimes teaming up to defeat powerful machines, and other times competing against rival groups for valuable resources. This blend of teamwork and rivalry leads to unpredictable and exciting gameplay.
This game differs from the main Horizon series because you’ll create and play as your own custom character, rather than Aloy. However, you’ll still be able to customize your character with options that fit the tribes seen in the original games.
This adaptation seems excellent and could significantly expand the franchise’s popularity in Asia, provided it keeps the gameplay that fans love. It also explains why Sony has been so protective of its intellectual property, particularly when it comes to games that copy ‘Light of Motiram’.
NCSoft hasn’t announced a release date yet, but they’re aiming to launch the game as quickly as they can. We anticipate pre-registration will become available soon after the official announcement, which is expected this week.
