The Next Horizon Game Is an MMO for Mobile and PC, Prompting Fury from PS5 Fans

Update [Thu 13th Nov 2025, 7:30am]:

NCSoft has officially revealed Horizon Steel Frontiers, a new online multiplayer game for both mobile and PC (playable on PC through the Purple platform). The game was previously discovered online earlier today, and this announcement confirms the details. It’s inspired by the open-world style of Guerrilla’s popular franchise.

Explore the Deadlands, a vast and dangerous world inspired by the landscapes of Arizona and New Mexico. This online game lets you create a unique character and team up with thousands of players in a world focused on action-packed combat and extensive character customization.

Here’s the first trailer:

And here’s a chunk of gameplay footage, which looks outstanding:

Guerrilla’s studio director Jan-Bart Van Beek said:

As a big Horizon fan, I’ve been lucky enough to play some early builds of Horizon Steel Frontiers with the team here at Guerrilla, and honestly, it’s incredible. What really grabs me is the game’s atmosphere – it has a really unique feel that sets it apart. NCSOFT’s developers have done an amazing job creating something with its own identity. But the best part is how well it fits into the Horizon world. It feels both familiar and totally fresh, and that balance is what’s got me so hyped for this project!

The announcement has been met with disappointment from dedicated PS5 fans. Following the reveal of Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble for mobile devices earlier this week, many believe Sony is overlooking the console that first popularized these franchises.

I saw someone on X (formerly Twitter) talking about this amazing new game, and it’s wild that it’s not coming to PlayStation! They said the gameplay is incredible, and honestly, I’m right there with them – please, please bring it to PS5!

I wouldn’t be shocked if this game eventually showed up on PlayStation, but it’s pretty clear they’re focusing on mobile gamers first. That makes a lot of sense, considering how huge the mobile market is!

Guerrilla, the team behind the project, recently shared on social media that they are continuing to develop new features for players to team up and hunt machines in the Horizon universe.

The company has been developing a multiplayer version of the game for a while now, and we anticipate an announcement about it soon.

Original Story: Sony’s fledgling mobile strategy is slowly coming into focus.

So, PlayStation just dropped some news that I’m really excited about! They’re making a mobile game called Ratchet & Clank: Galaxy Rangers. It’s a multiplayer shooter where you battle it out in arenas, which sounds awesome! I can’t wait to try it out on my phone.

Just before G-STAR in Korea, NCSoft officially unveiled their much-anticipated MMO, Horizon Steel Frontiers. The game will launch on both PC and mobile platforms, but there are currently no plans for a PlayStation 5 release.

We’re not sharing the trailer directly, but you can find it on The Verge. It features a hunter who can tame robotic creatures, similar to what you see in the regular Horizon games.

This mobile game, based on the popular MMO, lets you play with thousands of other players at the same time.

Here’s what Guerrilla’s Jan-Bart van Beek said in the leaked press release:

Horizon Steel Frontiers is a complete role-playing game designed for mobile devices by NCSoft. It lets you explore a vast world called the Deathlands—inspired by the landscapes of Arizona and New Mexico—from anywhere. As a machine hunter, you’ll join thousands of other players, teaming up to defeat powerful machines or competing with rival groups for valuable resources. This blend of cooperation and competition creates unpredictable and exciting gameplay experiences.

This game differs from the main Horizon series because you’ll create and play as your own custom character, rather than Aloy. However, you’ll still be able to customize your character with options that fit the established tribes from the main games.

This adaptation seems promising and could significantly broaden the franchise’s popularity in Asia, as long as it stays true to the original game’s core mechanics. It also highlights why Sony has been so protective of its intellectual property, particularly in cases involving games that imitate Light of Motiram.

NCSoft hasn’t announced a release date yet, but they’re aiming to launch the game as quickly as they can. They plan to start pre-registration soon after the official announcement, which is expected this week.
