The Night Agent Author’s New Book Gives Netflix The Perfect Espionage Thriller Show

Matthew Quirk, the author of the popular Netflix series The Night Agent (which is currently in its third season), has just released a new spy thriller. This latest book has the potential to become another successful TV show if it’s adapted for the screen. The Night Agent series, which premiered on Netflix in March 2023, was originally based on Quirk’s 2019 novel of the same name.

I’ve been following Gabriel Basso’s journey as Peter Sutherland, the unlikely FBI agent thrust into the world of top-secret ops with The Night Agent, and it’s been a quick ride. We barely had time to catch our breath after Season 1 before Season 2 dropped in January 2025, and then Season 3 followed in early 2026. And if that wasn’t enough, the author, Quirk, has just released another spy novel that honestly, I think could make for an even better television series than The Night Agent itself!

The Method Is Another Espionage Thriller From Matthew Quirk, The Author Of The Night Agent

I was so excited when Matthew Quirk’s new book, The Method, came out in January 2026! It’s another spy thriller from him, but it’s a bit different than The Night Agent. This time, the story centers around Anna Vaughn, a really famous action movie star who does all her own stunts. She’s trained in everything – driving, fighting, you name it – and honestly, she’s almost as skilled as the characters she plays, or at least she really wants to believe that!

Anna lives a peaceful life looking after her sister, but when her best friend disappears, she’s drawn into a complex and dangerous mystery. The story is full of twists, turns, and suspense, delivering the thrilling experience readers have come to anticipate from this author.

The Method Would Make A Fantastic Television Adaptation

Just from the premise, The Method feels like it would make a great TV show or movie, and could attract a similar audience to the popular series The Night Agent. Spy thrillers and stories about Hollywood are consistently popular, and The Method cleverly combines both of those elements.

An adaptation of this story would be full of exciting moments, both the everyday drama of Anna’s job and genuine action as she uses her abilities to help a friend. The story is well-suited to a single season of television, and could easily be extended if the show were to be renewed for more episodes.

How The Method And The Night Agent Compare

You can definitely see similarities between The Night Agent and The Method. Author Matthew Quirk even told Ebaster that the idea for The Method came to him while visiting the set of The Night Agent. He was amazed by “the amount of hard work and training the actors put in.”

Seeing the actors train for the physically demanding roles in The Night Agent sparked an idea for Quirk, and he developed it into The Method. Like The Night Agent, The Method features intense action, espionage, and a central character who is skilled and self-assured, yet still has room to grow.

While both shows feature protagonists taking matters into their own hands, they differ in focus. The Method leans into a more classic vigilante approach, while The Night Agent centers on government conspiracies and political intrigue. Jack Sutherland and his colleagues generally operate within established procedures, but Anna in The Method isn’t bound by such rules when her friend’s life is at risk.
