The Night Agent favourite confirms they’re not returning for season 3

When The Night Agent comes back for its third season on Netflix, it’ll be without one of its main actors, as this performer recently shared their shocking exit in a fresh interview.

In an acclaimed thriller series, Luciane Buchanan portrayed Rose Larkin – a proficient cybersecurity specialist. Her character developed a romantic relationship with the leading character, Peter Sutherland, played by Gabriel Basso.

Due to popular demand from viewers, the writers of The Night Agent decided to reintroduce the character in the upcoming second season, as there were significant changes in the supporting characters surrounding Buchanan and Basso.

Yet, the chapter concluded on a melancholic note for Rose and Peter. With his hazardous profession causing concerns about the longevity of their relationship, they found themselves compelled to part ways temporarily, and it appears that separation remains for the moment.

In simple terms, Deadline was informed by Buchanan that she will not appear in The Night Agent’s third season, which concluded filming globally after the series received early renewal in October 2024.

She shared that although the series had significantly boosted her career, with her leading a U.S. show being a rollercoaster ride even coming from small New Zealand, the writers felt compelled to delve deeper into Peter’s storyline as a result of the events in season 2’s conclusion.

Thus, we’re left wondering about Rose’s fate, but this seems like an intriguing phase for the series. Who knows, perhaps it’s not a permanent farewell.

Buchanan mentioned that before her departure was officially confirmed, those responsible for The Night Agent were attempting to devise a method to incorporate her into the story, but they were mindful not to diminish her role by making it shallow or lacking in depth.

The actor expressed, “I completely support that choice and concur with it. In essence, if it aligns with the plot, I’m on board. Otherwise, I prefer we avoid unnecessary complications.

It might be likely that we see Rose again in the future if Netflix decides to produce additional seasons of The Night Agent. At present, there’s a good chance this could happen.

According to Series Creator Shawn Ryan, he feels confident that “there are more chapters to write about Peter and Rose,” and he eagerly anticipates “future events that may bring back” the character portrayed by Buchanan.

As a dedicated film enthusiast, I must say that Luciane has truly become an invaluable part of our Night Agent clan during the initial two seasons. Her exceptional portrayal of Rose Larkin and her captivating dynamic with Peter have significantly contributed to the show’s triumph.

In our initial concept, each season of the show would introduce a fresh tale featuring a changing group of characters. Regrettably, the plotline we developed for Season 3 lacked a fitting conclusion for the character, Rose.

In essence, if Rose’s story on The Night Agent were to conclude here, Buchanan believes that it would be a fitting conclusion, as he thinks the relationship between her and Peter wasn’t ideal for either of them.

Contemplating her storyline in season 2, she realized: “She had to choose if she was ready to re-enter this world alongside Peter, and all that entailed – everything she’d been trying to escape.

It seemed logical for them to reach their current state, and it lent a sense of authenticity to the outcomes.

The Night Agent season 3 is coming soon to Netflix. Stream seasons 1-2 now.
