The Night Agent season 3 ending explained: What happened to Jacob Monroe?

All season long, Peter struggled to break free from the control of Jacob Monroe, as he was still obligated to a deal they made for information back in season 2.

He eventually discovered that Isabel, the journalist he collaborated with, was the daughter of Jacob – a revelation revealed through a series of flashbacks.

Jacob was once targeted by an assassin, known only as the Father, acting on the orders of Freya Myers. She wanted to hide the illegal financial connections between her bank and Jacob. In response, Jacob agreed to a deal with Peter: he would reveal all the corruption he had participated in and the people he had involved.

Unfortunately, Jacob didn’t live to see things through. Adam, Peter’s new partner assigned by President Hagan, ultimately killed him. Hagan ordered the hit himself, fearing that Monroe could expose him and his wife.

What did President Hagan and the First Lady do?

During the season, it came to light that Jenny Hagan and Monroe had secretly agreed to funnel money to Richard’s campaign before the election. Monroe illegally provided the funds, which were disguised as going through Jenny’s charity and Freya Myers’s bank account. This influx of money dramatically improved Richard’s chances in the primary, when he was previously struggling.

When a White House staff member involved in the deal questioned Jenny, she falsely screamed that he had a gun. This prompted Chelsea, who was working as White House security, to shoot and kill him. Jenny then took the staff member’s phone, which contained photos proving his involvement, ultimately revealing the truth to Chelsea.

After Richard discovered what really happened, he exploited his friendship with the new Night Agent, Adam, and manipulated him into carrying out tasks to conceal the truth.

Ultimately, Peter, Isabel, and Jay successfully got Myers to publicly reveal the Hagans’ wrongdoing, leading to their downfall. Richard granted them both pardons before leaving office, shielding them from criminal punishment as the Senate prepared to impeach him. However, the scandal ruined their political futures.

Despite leaving the White House, Hagan quickly secured a new job in media, suggesting he’ll be just fine.

What happened to Adam?

In the last episode, Hagan told Adam to eliminate Chelsea Arrington, as she was aware of the agreement Jenny made with Monroe.

Okay, so this guy was trying to carry out some orders, but Chelsea and Peter intervened – good for them! Later, he ambushed Peter while Peter was rushing to get Freya Myers on camera to talk about Hagan’s wrongdoing. But here’s the clever part: Peter talked him down, convincing this guy that Hagan was manipulating him and wasn’t being truthful. It was a really effective scene, showing Peter’s ability to think on his feet and appeal to this guy’s sense of loyalty, even though he was clearly being used.

Adam released Peter, and that was the last time anyone saw him. While he might return in a future season, it appears he’s moved on with his life and no longer has a connection to Hagan.

What happened between the Father and Freya Myers?

All season, we’d been tracking a shadowy assassin called the Father, who was uniquely raising the child of a couple he’d murdered while working as a hitman.

He once captured Peter for questioning, but Peter was freed by the Father’s son, who thought they were on the same side. During a face-off, Peter convinced the Father that his son was all that truly mattered, causing him to question his own actions.

The Father had broken his agreement with Freya Myers to harm Jacob, Jay, and Peter. He’d given her back the money and committed to being a full-time dad, trying to leave his dangerous past behind. But one final task remained.

After threatening his son to ensure the woman obeyed him, Myers arranged a meeting with her at a bar. Neither of them knew each other’s true identity, so they used fake names when they met. While they talked and he bought her a drink, he secretly prepared a small container that likely held poison.

Myers appeared to be dying, while the Father and his son were leaving to start a new life.

Where did we leave Peter, Chelsea and Isabel?

By the season’s end, Isabel had kept reporting on the Hagans, her father Monroe, and everyone involved in their illegal and corrupt dealings. She made an exception for Peter, though, believing he’d always acted with honest motives.

She was excelling in her career as a result of these articles and was planning a trip to Barcelona.

Chelsea, meanwhile, was happily planning her wedding to Theo and enjoying a peaceful life away from her work.

Peter finally met with FBI Deputy Director Aiden Mosley, who offered him a warm welcome back to duty whenever he was ready. Mosley also hinted that Peter would be getting a new partner, likely to be revealed in a potential fourth season of The Night Agent.
