One star from the hit TV show “The Office” is positioning himself to join James Gunn’s DC Universe, leveraging his previous connection with the director to increase his chances. If successful, this would not be the first time an “Office” actor secured a significant superhero role. Should he succeed, he would bring more comedic flair than John Krasinski’s portrayal of Mr. Fantastic in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” As reported by Entertainment Weekly, Rainn Wilson is optimistic about his prospects, but only if he can secure a particular heroic role.
As reported by EW, Wilson mentioned during a convention in Chicago that he’s been in discussions with his long-time friend Gunn regarding the possibility of his character appearing in the DC Universe. Previously, they collaborated on the project “Super,” which was Gunn’s interpretation of a crime war. If Wilson gets approved for this role, it could position him as a character reminiscent of DC’s Deadpool, at least based on Ben Schwartz’s assessment.
Wilson shared with the Fan Expo Chicago audience that he’s subtly suggested to James on multiple occasions, “You know what? You should work on Plastic Man.” Plastic Man is one of Wilson’s beloved DC characters, and he had a soft spot for him when he was younger.
Wilson added, “He always found humor in unexpected places, just like the Plastic Man comics that he thought were hilarious. It’d be quite entertaining to rediscover those.
During an earlier conversation with ComicBook prior to the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Ben Schwartz expressed similar thoughts and hinted at potentially taking on the role.
I’m friends with James, and I adore him, especially looking forward to his Superman project. Frankly, I’ve got a soft spot for superheroes. While Marvel Universe is captivating, DC’s character, Plastic Man, has always intrigued me. We’ve discussed this before, and I often thought he could have a similar vibe as Deadpool in his universe.
In simpler terms, it was the second occasion that Schwartz expressed his longing for Plastic Man during an interview conducted with the actor from Parks and Rec a year ago.
Speaking as a movie aficionado, I can’t help but be captivated by the character of Patrick O’Brian. He’s got this comical knack and an intriguing background as a notorious thief – quite the charming rogue! The idea of incorporating such a humorous character into the Justice League lineup seems like a stroke of genius to me. After all, with all those serious characters they’ve already got, having a funny guy around could provide just the right contrast. It would be like adding a splash of color to a black and white movie.
Wilson wasn’t particularly interested in playing that specific part to be content. He’d be equally satisfied with the yearly debates and predictions about his future projects. What truly matters to him is the appearance of Plastic Man in the cinemas.
