The popularity of One Piece has exploded recently, with fans discovering the Straw Hat Pirates through the manga, anime, and live-action series. Japan had planned to celebrate with a dedicated One Piece store, offering merchandise and special experiences. However, the store, called “One Piece Base Shop,” has announced a delay in opening and merchandise sales, and has released a statement explaining the situation to fans.
The official One Piece Base Shop website announced that the store will be temporarily closed due to operational issues. They explained that miscalculations and mismanagement led to problems for customers and made it impossible to provide a satisfactory experience. They apologized to those with existing reservations and anyone looking forward to visiting, and stated that they are suspending all future and existing reservations until further notice.
One Piece’s Store Ship is Going Down
The Base Shop announced that they will stop selling merchandise later this week, but the location will remain open to visitors. Starting Saturday, December 6, 2025, they will no longer sell items, but guests will still be able to enter and experience the space, and purchase certain content. While the shop hasn’t explained the reason for this change, many fans online have reported issues like long wait times, items being sold out quickly, and general dissatisfaction with the store’s initial opening.
Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, shared his excitement about the new One Piece Base Shop before it opened. He explained that the shop focuses on merchandise directly from the original manga, with many unique items spread across two floors of the Shinjuku Marui store. Oda believes even casual fans will enjoy browsing, and jokingly warned visitors to bring extra money because they’ll want to buy everything! He described the shop as a long-held dream come true, the result of years of dedication from the One Piece team, and encouraged everyone to visit. Currently, the shop hasn’t announced when it will restock merchandise.
