The highly anticipated game, The Outer Worlds 2, is available today! As with most big Xbox releases, it’s included with the Xbox Game Pass subscription. However, many players are experiencing issues accessing the game right now. A major outage with Microsoft Azure is causing problems with several services, including Xbox Game Pass.
Players began reporting problems with Xbox Game Pass around noon EDT, just before the planned release of The Outer Worlds 2. Many users are unable to load the service or log in, and this is happening on both PC and Xbox consoles. Here’s a quick update on what’s currently known. This is an ongoing issue, like with most major outages.
Microsoft Outage Takes Down Xbox Live & Game Pass

Around noon EDT, many users began reporting problems with Microsoft’s Azure cloud services and apps like those in Microsoft 365. While several services are affected, the outage is particularly disruptive for gamers, especially those excited about the upcoming release of The Outer Worlds 2 or anyone wanting to play online multiplayer games, due to issues with Xbox services.
Microsoft is aware of an outage affecting Xbox Live and Xbox Game Pass and is investigating the issue, according to TechRadar. Services were expected to be restored around 1:45 PM EDT, but many users are still experiencing problems, particularly those trying to play The Outer Worlds 2. The Microsoft support page is also currently unavailable, making it hard to find reliable updates on the situation.
Okay, so right now the Xbox Game Pass website is being super glitchy. It sort of loads, but all the pictures are missing and none of the links work. That means I can’t even browse the games, let alone download anything like The Outer Worlds 2 or any other Game Pass title. And it’s not just the website – the Game Pass page on my console isn’t loading either. Basically, if I was hoping to jump into something like the new Battlefield RedSec using Xbox Live, I’m stuck waiting until they fix this.

Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Live are currently unavailable, and we don’t know when they’ll be back online. Other games, like Fortnite, are also having problems for players using Xbox Cloud Gaming. Microsoft is working on a fix to get everything running smoothly again. Hopefully, this outage won’t last as long as the PlayStation Network outage earlier in 2025.
Similar to the recent AWS outage, this Azure disruption could cause ongoing issues. Websites and services that rely on Azure might require adjustments even after it’s restored. Because Xbox is a Microsoft-owned product, the team is probably already working to fix Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Live.
Many Xbox Game Pass subscribers are likely looking forward to playing The Outer Worlds 2, but it’s important to know the game will be available on multiple platforms. Currently, the game is still available for purchase on Steam and the PlayStation Store, despite recent issues elsewhere.
