With the release of The Batman 2 still a few years away in 2027, details about the movie are starting to emerge. The news is mostly encouraging, especially the addition of Scarlet Johansson and Sebastian Stan, who is expected to play the villain Two-Face. However, some rumors suggest that several important characters from the first film won’t be returning, which is disappointing. Plus, the future of the The Penguin spin-off show is also looking uncertain.
As a big fan of The Batman universe, I was a little bummed to hear that both Colin Farrell’s Penguin and Cristin Milioti’s Sofia Falcone won’t be major players in the sequel. It’s not just the next movie either – Milioti hasn’t even been contacted about a potential return for The Penguin series! Director Matt Reeves explained that they were so far along in writing the script when The Penguin aired that it didn’t really fit. But he did say he thinks she’s fantastic and was really impressed with her performance in the show, so maybe there’s still hope for her character down the line. It’s a shame though, because I really enjoyed what she brought to the world!
What To Expect From the 2nd Season of The Penguin
Cristin Milioti and Topher Grace recently discussed the possibility of a second season of their show with Deadline. Milioti admitted there’s been no official announcement, but she’s eager for one. Grace passionately agreed, urging those in charge to renew the show, calling it the best he’s ever seen and praising Milioti’s performance as one of the greatest of our time. They also confirmed Milioti won’t be appearing in the upcoming film, which they both expressed disappointment about. Director Matt Reeves explained that while they loved the character work done by Lauren LeFranc on The Penguin series and would love to collaborate with her again, Milioti wasn’t involved in the current film because the story was already well underway.
With a stellar 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes, The Penguin—the follow-up to The Batman—is receiving high praise. Sarah Ward from Concrete Playground calls it a realistic and compelling dive into the world of supervillains, highlighting fantastic performances by Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti as examples of excellent comic book adaptation. Jonathan Garcia of the Dynamic Duel Podcast echoes this sentiment, describing the limited series as a brutal and epic crime thriller and a true masterpiece of its kind.
