Marvel Studios has released the trailer for its new Disney+ special, finally giving fans what they’ve been waiting for. The special features Jon Bernthal reprising his role as Frank Castle, and promises a very personal story for the character.
As a big Marvel fan, I’m really excited about The Punisher: One Last Kill because it seems like it’s going to fill in some missing pieces of Frank Castle’s journey. It’s supposed to explain how the Punisher evolved from who we knew him to be in previous stories.
What Is The Punisher: One Last Kill About?
Disney+ hasn’t revealed much about the plot of the upcoming Punisher special. However, a recent description hints that Frank Castle is looking for a purpose beyond getting revenge, but will be drawn back into conflict by a surprising new element.
It seems Frank is searching for a reason to continue his violent actions as a vigilante. The subtitle, One Last Kill, might suggest he’ll undertake one final, dangerous mission before altering his approach or, at least, his reasons for fighting. However, it’s currently unknown if this is the case.
I just watched the trailer for the new Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie, and something struck me as really interesting. It showed Spider-Man facing some seriously skilled opponents, and it got me thinking… could the film be taking inspiration from a recent Punisher comic book series? That series had Frank Castle working as a hitman for this mysterious ninja clan, and the fighting style in the trailer feels very similar. It’s just a theory, but it would be a cool twist if they connected those two worlds!
The Punisher: One Last Kill Is an Intense New Addition to Frank Castle’s Story
Marvel is heavily promoting The Punisher: One Last Kill, a 60-minute special. Notably, Jon Bernthal, who played Frank Castle, co-wrote the project, demonstrating his strong personal investment in the character.
I’ve often said that Frank Castle holds a special place in my heart, and I genuinely care about the character,” Bernthal explained about how he became involved in co-writing the special. “When we talked about what this project could be and the kind of Frank Castle fans wanted – especially those in the military, first responders, and comic book communities – I shared my vision with the creators. They were very supportive and encouraged me to continue developing it.
Jon Bernthal co-wrote and stars in The Punisher: One Last Kill, working with writer and director Reinaldo Marcus Green. Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, and Sana Amanat all served as executive producers. The cast also includes Jason R. Moore, Roe Rancell, and Mila Jaymes.
The Punisher: One Last Kill debuts on Disney+ on May 12.
