Frank Castle, also known as the Punisher, is returning in a brand-new comic book series. While criminals might fear this news, fans are thrilled! Punisher #1 is set to be released in February 2026, promising more of the character’s signature, uncompromising brand of justice.
Benjamin Percy, known for his work on Punisher: Red Band #1, teams up with artist José Luis Soares and inker Oren Junior – both experienced comic book creators with credits from DC and Marvel – to launch a new Punisher series.
This story continues directly after the events of Punisher: Red Band and features a full-scale war against Jigsaw, the notorious villain who frequently clashes with the Punisher, Spider-Man, and Daredevil in brutal and chaotic battles. When asked about the grim tone of the new Punisher series, writer Matthew Rosenberg didn’t hold back, much to Frank Castle’s likely approval.
According to a recent statement by the author, Punisher: Red Band marked a turning point for the character of Frank Castle, being both a fresh start and an incredibly intense story. The initial issue was packaged in a protective bag due to its graphic violence and extreme bloodshed. Now that readers have seen the new direction, the series will continue the themes of Red Band while also being accessible to those new to the story.
A Punishing Past, A Punisher Future
The Punisher is known as one of the most relentless and uncompromising anti-heroes in comics, whether you look at DC or Marvel. Driven by the horrific murder of his family, which he witnessed firsthand, this ex-Marine dedicates his life to brutal revenge against all criminals. This intense and violent atmosphere is what inspires the new series, promising a visually striking and imaginative experience for readers beginning in 2026.
He announced he was collaborating with José Luis on pencils and Oren Junior on inks, working together in the gritty locations of New York. He described how José is expanding his artistic range to perfectly capture the dark and damaged world of Frank Castle, bringing incredible detail, a sense of danger, and intense action to the story. The villain, Jigsaw, a classic Marvel antagonist, was chosen because he embodies the broken and fragmented nature of Frank’s own journey.
Percy’s closing statement was bone-chilling: “Get ready. This is gonna hurt.”
Dedicated followers of Frank Castle wouldn’t want it any other way, considering his history is filled with battles and alliances alongside iconic Marvel heroes. He’s known for leaving a trail of destruction, and in that sense, the current storyline promises a thrilling and action-packed experience.
